Cab Trouble

While putting the top down on my car today, my finger slipped off just as it was about to latch onto the windshield, and it is stuck about 2cm above the windshield now. It is the first time I have had the top up in about a month.

The top will not close or open, it is just stuck 2cm above the windshield. I am taking it apart tomorrow, but any of you guys with some experience would be a great help.

-Chris

I had problems w/ mine. And the first thing you might check is the continuity to the switch. Then the micro swtches which are on the passenger side behind the panel in the back seat. There are a couple sheat metal screws that hold the panel in place. So, unscrew and you'll see the transmission that runs the top. Next, look for two small microswitches. When the top reaches winsheild one micro switch is pressed close and stopps the travel of the top. And when it is closes that micro switch opens and the other switch is pressed close when the top is all the way down. The switches may need adjustment. They can be easily adjusted by loosening the two screws, the adjusting and tightening the screws, and testing.

There's one more thing to check if adjusting the micro switches doesn't work. You mentioned that you had your top down for about a month. The top may have shrank abit and you may need to do some more adjusting. So, take both panels off in the back seat. look for an eye boltthat adjusts top tension. If your top shrank you might have to release some tension in order for your top to completly close. Unfortunatelly I can't rember which way tightens or loosens. Also, I loosened mine too much the first time and the top came too far foreward and had to tighten up a bit.

Are the motors making any noise at all when you hit the switch? If not, perhaps it's just a blown fuse.

the headlights dim when I try to close the top, so I think the motor is trying to run, but nothing happens when I try to open it.

I had it apart today, and found the screws that tighten the latches. Works fine now. Next time I will know to search for cab instead of convertable.
