Removing front bumper (fender)

Newbie question !
My front bumper will have to be removed prior to it being repainted in a bodyshop. If i can remove it myself i will save some money ,Is this something a beginner (i can use a spanner!) can do or does it require specialist tools etc ?

The front bumper comes off pretty easy. First remove the front rubber strip. You'll see the four bolts (two each side) to unbolt the bumper. Remove or unbolt the rubber bellows on each side beforehand . With the four bolts off, the bumper should come off pretty easy, sometimes with a good, strong pull.

You will also have to disconnect the front turn signal lights. They are attached to the front bumper and will hang you up if you don't dosconnect the wiring.

Seems like there's also a pair of bolts in the boot for the front facie. IIRC, removing the whole front facie, including totally removing both bellows, really helped in getting my bumper off. Good luck.

Welcome Soup,

I have the Gerry Burger article I can e-mail with step-by-step instructions regarding smile replacement which includes bumper removal. Pretty straight forward. Send me your e-mail and i'd be happy to send it to you.

Remember to use lubricant or liquid wrench on the bellow nuts as the studs have a tendency to break off.
