What brake pads to use other then Pagid's?
I need new pads for my rear brakes, what brand is good to use?
|
PFC 97 compound. Twice the life and almost half the price. Better feeling too, this is very subjective since we all brake a bit differently. Also no bed in nightmare like Pagid$.
Cheers, James |
PFC? Where do I find those?
|
I recently purchased the Performance Friction 97's as well and have been very happy. They were cheaper, are supposed to last longer and not kill the rotors. So far so good with 2 track days and some nice street driving. You can get them at RW Parts in Chicago, Chris Streit pointed me their way.

Porterfield brake pads - ARE THE BOMB!
Buy them direct from the man himself, who is incidentaly a nice guy - I spoke with him late one night when all of the sales people had gone home. http://www.porterfield-brakes.com/ I think I have the full race pads (I forget), and they don't take more than one pedal push to warm up, and they are OK to drive to and from the track with very little squeal. NO FADE!!! R-4 Full Race Compound R4-S High Performance Street and Autocross |
Pelican parts sells brake pads , I think you can find them somewhere on this site!

Hawks, Cobalts, Ferodos,Porterfield R4...the possibilities are kinda staggering
|
I vote for Porterfield R4 (track) or R4S (street). Great price and great pad. A little dusty but so as the other performance pads.
|
I went with Jurid pads on the rear along with replacing the rotors.
|
What do you have on the front, and how are you using the car? Stock pads work nicely when cold and warm, track pads don't really bite until hot. Mix them up and things get interesting.
|
Very pleased with Poterfield R4 both on the track (POC club racing) even at Laguna, which is hard on brakes, and also on the street. Allways there, right now, and easy to modulate. Wear rate is good also. Can be a littel noisy on the street from time to time.

I have the Porterfield R4S on my daily driver (Audi) and they squeal like mad. That said, you have to really flog them to get them to fade (compared to the stock pads).
|
Honestly I have been thrilled with the Pagids on my car now. However I also used the Porterfield R4's on my previous 914 and they worked great, although extremely noisy. They are tough to beat for the price. The main reason I went to Pagids was the range of compounds -- I run different pads front and rear to tweak the bias slightly.

I put Metal Master on for my dad on his 100% street driven 88. We have been very happy with them. Very quiet, consistant, and little dust. I put Mintex on mine. They seem to work as well, but much more dust.

I have PF 97s on my '72 and it is used exclusively on the track. They brake 10x better than the stock pads (resist fading and boiling fluid while providing more stopping power), last a long time (haven't had to replace them in the last 4 years), and they're easy on the rotors (still look like they did 4 years ago).
They can be noisy when cold and they take a couple of turns to get warmed up. BTW, I got mine from OG Racing. |
I'm sure this isn't an option, but I've recently found that there are break pads with a warranty (some even lifetime). Does anyone know of any that would be useable for street/light track (some DE and AX) that offers free replacement?
I'm guessing it is basically a recycling method since they won't honor it if you go all the way down to the metal. They probably just replace the pad and then resell them. Anyone have any insight? |
