Targa hardtop questions...
Anyone have a picture of the cutout for newer (84+) windshield surrounds to accept the latch of the hard top? I just got a great deal on one and have searched the site... Everyone says the newer cars have the recepticle, just needs to be found and uncovered... Pics???

Put the top on the car and see where the top latches are in relation to the windshield header. Feel the vertical surface of the header just where the latches hang down. You will feel rectangler hole behind the vinyl. You can then cut the vinyl around the edge of the hole for the latch to catch the hole. There is a factory bezel that then covers the edge of the cut vinyl. It is not available from the factory anymore so you will have to make them . You can do without the bezel but the edge of the vinyl will get all messed up from the latch rubbing on it.

Not as cheap as some have lucked out and found... but considering the last few I saw were around 1500-2000 I thought this doable. A headliner is no big deal. Sounds like a great "upgrade" even though Porsche thought it to be a "downgrade". Can't wait to get it!!! :D |

Sweet. Someday I hope to "downgrade" too.

Make sure the latches are in good condition as they had a problem with the end breaking off the hook. The latches are not available from Porsche or anywhere that i can find.

A pic of one of the latches... They both look the same... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1085329311.jpg |
The latches in the pic appear to be ok. Once the top has been installed on the car you may have to adjust the latch for tightness on your car . Too loose and the latch will not stay attached and too tight and you risk breaking the latch. It took a few trys before i got mine adjusted just right. If you don't like the look of the flat black finish the top can be covered with factory look vinyl very easly, no sewing at all. Just cut and glue and the top looks like a regular targa top.

That's peeling, actually. I think it's having trouble with Chicago's temperature changes, especially the winters. I'm debating whether or not I'll try removing the vinyl and repainting it or glue it back down. The vinyl looked good.
