Highbeam/TS switch question
Just recently, my ts switch began to turn on the highbeams whenever the t/s cancels. PO had h4's with no relay (first thing I did was add one-a year ago, around the time I bought the car) but switch was ok for a year. Suspect the switch is toast, but was wondering if anyone has seen this and whether it could be a cheaper fix. The wheel, if it matters, is a momo with their adaptor using the stock "cancel ring".
It has the potential to really annoy drivers in front of me, no? |

Same problem, same situation, same car (I'm assuming the '85 Targa...), - bad switch. You can usually get a used one for not too much money ($25-50). It's a quick cheap fix. Replaced it and have had no problems since then.
There's other threads on the same topic, try a search. |
h/l switch
I had problems with the h/l part of the switch. I have an h4 installed but I am told this is not really the problem.
The electrical contacts get old or dirty and then have a higher resistance which causes them to heat up. The follower that bares on and separates the contacts is plastic. This is the part that heated up and failed for me. I really thing dirt caused the problem for me. I removed the switch and have fixed it using epoxy to build up the melted part. Because I had ordered a new part, I installed it anyways but now have a backup. Good luck with yours :) |
