Clutch engagement

I've searched the forum on the subject of what level of pedal travel the clutch begins to engage. I have an '87 930 and the clutch engages very close to the top. After reading 30 or 40 posts, 50% of the cars start to engage near the floor and 50% start to engage at the top, with no concensus as to which is "best". One interesting comment was made that engagement near to top is best, as it gives you better clamping force. This is counterintuitive, as I would think that clamping force would be more the closer the engagement occurs to the floor (at the expense of possibly not disengaging during shifts). Anyway, I have some concern as I will be at the DE event at Road America this weekend and clutch slippage is not an option. As a side note, I have not experienced any apparent problems during "normal" driving, and my clutch was replaced about 3K miles ago. Comments welcomed.

You might need to bleed your slave cylinder, the smallest bubble would cause that problem, however; go beat the snot out of it and see if it slips.

My '87 930 does not have a hydraulic clutch, as do the Carerra's with the G50. However, the cable does seem to be adjusted correctly. Anyway, I will see this weekend how it does. I'm still interested in understanding the effect of engagement pedal level with clamping force of the clutch.

Your right, what ws I thinking? I noticed my new clutch in my Carerra engaged differently than the stocker. It had something to do with how much the disc itself will compress when it is engaging. The rubber center disc would compress alot more than the one I put in, giving it a longer and more supple engagment.
