71 911 fual smell cornering

New member here. I have a 71 911 with a 73T motor and 959 body kit. When I take hard right hand corners it seems the fuel makes it back up the fill tube when the tank is in the full range and a strong smell of fuel comes. I changed the gas cap but no fix. There is a small open tube next to the fill tube. Sorry to sound stupid but I just got this car and I have not had time to do much learning yet. Also, I know this could be long shot but once in a while on a very hard turn-either direction immediately after straightening out and hitting the gas the car bogs/chokes for a second. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.
Newby Porsche owner.

Welcome. Many of us have had cars with gas smell problems. I choose to not top off the tank and usually have no smell. I assume your '73 is similar to my 71 with the vapor recovery tubes. None should be open to the trunk. They all connect to somthing. There was a diagram posted recently. Maybe you can find that rascal with a search. There is a lot of info here available thru searches.

As for the stumbling when you hit the gas, do you have carbs or the fuel injuection. The cure would be quite different for each. But, it probably is just an adjustment. Let us know on the carbs/FI.

EDIT: Looks like Paul beat me to the diagram. Good work. When I first opened this thread, I though he meant a "foul" smell.

Engine Stumbling

Thanks for all the replies/links on the gas smells. I will check my lines. Since the body kit was installed who knows what's in there.
As far as the cornering bog down. The car about 100 miles ago received a new fuel accumulator, fuel pump, throttle lever, fuel filter. It runs like a champ 99.9% of the time, just the hard cornering when you come out of it. Dave

Ah, perhaps a '73 1/2 engine?

Motor

Yes, place told me it was a 73T motor. All the work was done by a place called Gerber Motorsports in Seattle. Very happy with the work but at $90 per hr I need to start figuring some of this stuff out myself.
