Selling a 911 SC
OK guys, I am considering the sale of my 1980 911 SC...the car has a 1977 Carerra 3.0 engine that runs well and is stock. I recently did some routine maintenance and fixed some leaks, but not much more. Brand new P6000 tires all the way around...The body is in good shape and the interior looks ok...what is the opinion of the group as to what the value might be. The chasis has 60k miles...I have no idea what the engine miles are.

Locally, I'd say 8-10k.
A few comments that I'd have as a potential buyer: The egine has no documentation, which will scare most folks off, even if it has decent compression now. It is missing the chain tensioner upgrade and needs an 11 blade fan! These upgrades would have easily been done before that engine was swapped in place. Why was it left out? That doesn't speak for a quality approach ... I take it that you checked engine numbers to verify the 3.0? The pros for the car are the nice looking interior (nice dash!) and the fact that it comes in one of the most popular color combos. In CA the earlier engine in a later car would create some serious smog headaches, but in MI that probably isn't an issue. Hope this helps. George |

The engine is a 930/02...came out of a 1977 Carerra 3.0, only sold in Europe. The car is interesting to be sure and a lot of fun to drive. When I was cleaning it after I bought it I found a bunch of German money that had fallen under the consol...thanks

Worse engines could have been swapped in place of the 3.0. However, I doubt that it increases the value of the car over an SC with the original 3.0.
Finding German currency? So the entire car is a Euro car? When was it imported? George |

If it were all original and in very good condition throughout, it might fetch 12k where you are. With the earlier engine with unknown miles, needing upgraded tensioners and fan, and "ok" interior with missing original steering wheel, shift knob and radio, I'd say 8-10k is optimistic. 6-7k maybe. 24 year old cars just aren't very desirable unless they're original.

That doesn't look like a Euro car to me - it's missing the side marker lights and it has the U.S. sealed-beam headlight trim rings.

No...it has the H-4 headlights and the VIN matches the Euro version

I guess that it's worth whatever some one will give you for it. As for the 60K miles, you're joking, right? Really you meant to say that the chassis had 200k kilometers on it, (Europe, remember?), when someone stuck an American speedometer in it. The odometer reading on an undocumented, grey market car is meaningless. Just say that you have no idea how many miles are on the car or engine. As for value, again, It is worth its value in parts. I would say $8G. And before anyone gets offended, mine is also worth its value in parts, the parts are just a little more expensive. ![]()

I would say ask for $8k & see where it goes, drop from there. Agree w/ speeder that the chassis mileage must be an unknown given its grey market status. It certainly doesn't look like a 60k original mile car in the pics anyway.

If I had to settle 8k as suggested I wouldn't sell the car. Despite the lack of history I think the car would still bring good money . Jim |

Very nice pictures John. Why do you want to sell it?
I'd start advertising it for 10k and try to spin the euro / carrera engine as a positive. George |

Put a price on the car , I know of a guy locally ( Indy ) looking for a car . I don't think he wants to spend quite as much as you'll probably ask but I think it's close . Jim |
