My 84 Targa was a little over 34,000. I still have the original window tag...

81 SC was around 36k. It had a lot of options. Full leather, LSD, you name it. What a horribly high price for the time. I would have been pissed paying that much for it and then find WWII fuses in there.

The list goes on! Those little rocker switches they stuck wherever there was room? And the wiper intermittent turn knob they just threw between the gauges? Jeez!

That all said, to a certain point this is also the customer's fault. They didn't want the 924, the 944 or even the 928. There was no way Porsche could quit making the 911 and they didn't want to commit into making an all new model until 98! The 993 still has that dash!

But its still running strong and looks great doesnt it?

How many other 83 vehicles with a lot of miles do you still see out there running and looking great?

Best $34K ever spent.

Yeah, but what would you pay for one of those not so good looking other 83 models now? $1500 tops! I can't get an SC for that! These cars still demand a premium, even if the prices have come down a bit.

While I think the engines and other mechanicals are very remarkable, i think nothing on the 911 holds up any better than on any other German car of that era. The advantage that these cars have is that they generally were taken care of very well (garaged, maintenance, waxed etc.). It now shows!

My car needed every bit of attention to aged rubber, split and curled leather, sagging suspension etc. like any old car. The only big plus is the anodized body and the bullet proof engine.

Cheers, George

I have an '83 Cab and also have the R&T, Car and Driver, and Motor Trend from that year and reviewed the car. Car & Driver listed the Cab at $38,355, w/ base price at $34,450. It also reviewed the 930 Slant Nose and it priced at $95k! That was a lot on money in those days! Still is!
