How was your car broken into???


I am laying out an alarm system and need some info on what spots on the car are most venerable.

yea the first 911 i ever owned was broken into the third nite i had it. It was a 91 964 and they just smashed the window and stole some cd's and some change. They eneded up bending the window frame too. Then again that was better then when they just took my whole 1994 Speedster right out of my garage.

Broke my drivers roll-down window.

It looks as if they used a screwdriver - trying to pry the window down. :mad:

The Window frame bent, the glass shattered.

Then they tried to "pick" at the door lock knob. It's recessed on my '85. :rolleyes:

They finally got in, stole my laptop bag, and my cheap old Pioneer CD radio.

Sliced the convertible top, while the door was not locked! Idiots!

Worked at a Porsche/Audi/VW dealership near Bridgeport, CT in the late 80's (when I was 18). I would pull all the Porsche's in at night. The ones that were non functional had to stay outside. We had cab's often. If we had five cab's staying outside in a given week at least one would get broken into. They would just slice the tops. It was painful to see but I think the dealer liked the extra business so they weren't to stressed about it. The worst was that the crooks like to work in the rain because the noise is muffled and the security patrol was a little less motile. You can imagine the secondary damage when a cab was sliced open and left that way for 6-8 hrs on a rainy evening.

Other than cabs there were very few cars broken into.

At least he was nice enough to leave a very fresh and very clear hand print on the rear wheel well and a nice sneaker print on the dark blue canvas top. :rolleyes:

A bend in the window frame looked like they tried to pry into an edge on the passenger glass and either it broke or they ended up just smashing it. The temptation was prob the Nak in the dash and 3 cases of tapes, but they missed the radar detector :D

Crowbar to open the driver,s door on an 86 951.They then mangled the dash to get a $1000 stereo Total damage cost about $4500. It happened again about 60 days later.I then stopped locking my cars and installed an alarm as secondary damage was greatest part of loss. The complete stereo left my 86 911Cab about 3 years later in my drive. I forgot to set the alarm. My kids heard something but didn,t bother looking.At least the top and body escaped damage

Someone pushed in the vent window in my old 912 breaking the latch and stealing a couple of things.

I have a bent coat hanger in my garage with which I can pop an SC (never tried a Carerra or newer) in 20 seconds.

If I wanted in quick, I would just pry the top-rear window frame out with my fingers and reach my arm in to the un-lock wheel. I have done it before without breaking the glass.

I like to pull the fuel pump relay if I am scared about where I'm parking.

Any targa or cab with the 'regular' pull-up door lock buttons can be opened in seconds. It is even easier on the early cars with openable vent windows.

A coupe should be significantly more secure from coat-hanger types of attacks due to the framed door glass; however I figure a standard slim-jim tool could open 911 doors (?) The lock mechanism is really simple.
