Strange, erratic idle speeds.
These random CIS problems are driving me nuts. I finally got all my personal property delivered after 6 months without tool, etc. So last weekend, I slapped on the gauge and adjusted my WUR and used the Gastester to set the mixture. Was running perfectly, well as good as it's run since I've owned it. I've always had a problem with it idling really high(around 1500 - 1700) when it's warmed up, like after an hour drive or extended city driving. And that's exactly the way it idled the day after adjustment. But yesterday on the way home, after an hour commute, the idle was so low it would barely stay running and the idle when the engine was cold this morning (still 80 degrees in Florida) was really low also(about 600 RPM). What would plug up or change or come loose to cause this change in idle speed in the course of a day?
Also, here's one more to figure out. I have had a slight miss lately. I was thinking it was ignition related. I notice that it corresponds to my tach bouncing erraticly at idle. Sometimes it misses, sometimes not, but the missing and bouncing tach seem to go together. What's up with that?

There may be more CIS related issues, but I think I've found the source of my erratic idle and bouncing tach. On the way home from work today, my car would barely idle. I heard a lot of mechanical noises from back there if you know what I mean. Tonight after dinner I started her up and took a listen. Turns out the noise was coming from the distributor. Took the cap off and discovered my rotor was in pieces and there's chunks out of the contacts in the cap. There is about an 1/8" of lateral slop in the dizzy shaft and the rotor must be hitting the cap. Not good. Does anyone know of a source for new bushings(bearings?) for the dizzy? I am probably going to just buy a new or rebuilt unit right away because I don't have time for experimentation right now, but it would be nice to have a spare.
