Berardino, thanks that's reassuring.

Berardino/John, I've been having a debate with my mechanic about the camber. The tire in the picture is the worst, but the other 3 are showing slightly more wear on the shoulder as well. At the moment the car is set up for tarmac rallies (which is what I want), but supposedly this means less neg. camber than would be optimal for the track… I don't really understand yet why less neg. camber would be good for road/rally driving…

Matt, I'll check when I get home and post the Ks.

Regards,
Andrew.

Mike,

Here's another 3/4-angle snap. As soon as the 17s are on, I'm going to find a professional photographer and get some poster-worthy images taken. It should look pretty wild!

Here's the (dirty) MFI 2.9! I couldn't resist!

Rob,

The site for my business or the site for my old car? Wait until you see the site for my new car! It's going to serve no purpose other than to aggrandize the car!

Adam 06-01-2004 08:26 PM

Matt, I've now got a 5.8 megapixel camera that we can experiment with. I don't fully know how to drive it properly, yet... :o

Slick car!

Andrew,

During track running, on smooth, predictable and high traction surfaces, the cornering loads, thus dynamic camber changes and sidewall deformation are going to be greater than during a tarmac rally, where you often drive over broken and less grippy surfaces, and where braking is considered to be more important than cornering grip (less camber means more rubber on the road when wheels are pointed straight). Hence more neg camber for track, less for road/rally.

Matt,

Glad it's a weekend car. I'd hate to read about you aquaplaning over 5 lanes of traffic and totalling it! Combination of light car (with N/A engine & RSR flares), huge tyres and little tread can't be too good in the rain!

amk 06-02-2004 12:56 AM

Langers, thanks that make sense.

Matt, I didn't note down the K's when I got the tires (doh!). Based on the date I purchased them I'd estimate a little over 4,000 km's so far.

Regards,
Andrew.

Matt, the site for your business. Is there a link to the site for your old car?

rs911t 06-02-2004 03:32 AM

Matt, what's your MFI setup, specifically the TB and air horns? It looks like you have two injectors per intake? One in the TB and the other in the head....

Thanks

Great looking wheels! Can't wait to see new pictures with 'em mounted.

Speaking of hydroplaning... this guy was lucky... at least the shinny side is up... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1086189221.jpg

PS. Nice website! :D

Matt Holcomb 06-02-2004 09:13 PM

Adam,

5.8 megapixels! I'm still in the dark ages: 2.0 megapixels.

Andrew,

So should I expect 10,000kms, providing that I don't have too much negative camber on the front wheels?

Rob,

Glad you like the website for my business! It was several months in the making! The URL for the website for my old car:

www.holscope.com/74Carrera2.7/

Greg,

What you see are individual, 50mm MoTeC throttle bodies. Only one injector per cylinder, I'm afraid. I have two spark plugs per cylinder, though!

Paul,

Yeah, that photo serves as an effective warning: don't drive in the wet! Thanks for checking out the site.

Matt,

If you stay away from the track you should get many more K's than me, the wear after a track day is very noticable... having said that keeping your beast away from the track would be a terrible shame... you can always buy more tires... go on, enjoy it, you know you want to.

Regards,
Andrew.

Matt,

I don't think you should by A032s for primarily street driving (not sure if this is your plan or not). for track and a little street, they are just fine, but they aren't that much more practical than something like a victoracer. maybe a little better water evacuation but watch those fronts!

Matt Holcomb 06-03-2004 08:31 PM

Andy,

I drive the car 200-300kms a week. Once I've finished making the car a little more focused (it needs to lose about 100kg), then I'll do between three and five sprints per year.

Hey Matt,

Are Harrys wheels 2 or 3 piece?

Matt

ZAMIRZ 09-04-2010 02:40 PM

^This thread is 6 years old. I don't think Matt's around anymore.

dominicxu1 09-04-2010 02:45 PM

Hi Matt,
Harry Witham wheels are 2 piece, using a cast centre made for Harry which is quite similar to the Fuch centre.I spoke with Harry a few months ago regarding having a set of 17x8 and 17x10 for my car. These would have cost me around $3000 to $3200. I have since purchased Rota Fox Fuch replicas 17x7.5 and 17x9 and am about to purchase another set of 17x9 and run 4 off 17x9 on my turbo bodied car. Hopefully Rota will decide to make a 17x11 to suit the rear of turbo bodied cars in the near future.

Dominic.
