Replacing fender oil cooler with front only

I'm in the process of putting together a plan to add oil cooling to my 911.

Originally, I planned on adding a front oil cooler to my brass oil cooler.

But as I thought about it... while always thinking "lightweight"... do I still need the brass fender mounted oil cooler if I add a front bumper one? It seems that the front one would work better than the fender one and I could reduce weight by eliminating the old cooler.

What do you guys think? I'm glad this is such an opinionated crowd... and I'm glad I have tough skin. ;)

Cheerios!

I'm running a big Setrab center mounted cooler with no fender cooler on my 930 engine. The airflow is so much greater, the engine never goes much above 185 or so as long as you're not just idling at a stop.

Are you changing out the front valance to allow airflow?

l eliminated my fender cooler when l went with the front mount.l know some people keep both but l`ve been fine with just the front mount.

cowtown,

I already have a Ruf Yellowbird style front bumper. :)

You can run them in series or replace the brass cooler with a fan-powered carerra cooler.

Your in-fender cooler is the Carrera radiator type, correct?

You'll be fine with a comparable or larger unit up front.

Moses,
I was thinking about saving weight in removing the fender cooler for the front bumper one.

RickM,
Naw... my Euro 1984 came with the brass 28(?) row oil cooler.

You'll be fine. Plenty cool with just a front cooler.

Cool... just as I suspected. I just wanted to make sure though... I've made mistakes in the past thinking I knew more than the collective knowledge base of this board.

;)

On a similar note, how much do you guys think I could get for my brass row cooler?

I run just a B&B front mount on mine, temps have never exceeded 95&deg C

Would it bolt onto my 83SC? If it would, I may be interested Steve...

I have been searching for a 28-tube cooler and finally located and purchased a fine example the other week on Ebay. I have purchased an installation kit for the cooler but two of the parts are puzzling me on exactly where they are intended to go. The part numbers in question are 930 207 927 00 & 911 503 292 00 GRV - I looked on Pelican and went to my mechanic's shop and looked it up on PET but neither source shows where these parts are installed. Could someone, as the opportunity arises, take some pictures of the factory installed 28-tube cooler? The bottom installation is quite clear - it is the upper portion that is causing me grief.

Depends, I use only a B&B front mount on my 3.8RS no problem at all.

If traffic is an issue I rec. a fnder mount w/ fan and a small front mount.

Otherwise a big front mount is very efficient at cooling oil.
