Re newing Timing Chains
So when I refreshen my race engines at 40-50 hours I always install new timing chains. Is this necessary? Am I wasting $$$

I was told by my mechanic that he's only seen one timing chain fail and he's a racer (Kevin Roush POC Orange Group). Johnny Walker and others said that if theres no room for your finger tip between the chain and the case (upper left) then it's time to change the chain. Otherwise just leave it.
But, they're only about $45, so no biggie. Living in Coto de Caza, $50 is lunch money for you. Heheehhehee

What type of chain tensioners are you using? If you're using the straight, solid racing tensioners, then maybe yes, it's a good idea. If not, then yes, you're probably buying too many chains...

Thanks guys Wayne I use the solid mech. tensioners, so I guess thats cheap insurance
