Battery Charging Problem - No alternator output - Bad VR?
Tried searching the archives but couldn't find any supporting posts.
I purchased a 66 911 last year to "feed" my habit while my 72 "Gretchen" was being rebuilt. I installed a 2.7RS-clone motor in it over the winter and was running fine until a month or so ago. She started draining the battery, sputter and missing. I then noticed that the alternator light started to glow and got brighter as I drove. I tested the voltage at the battery during idle and at 3000rpm. It never rose above 12.x volts. I assumed it was the alternator. I've : 1) charged the battery 2) replaced the ground cables at battery and transmission/tub 3) replaced the alternator The problem still exists. Can a bad voltage regulator cause a no charging situation? Any other ideas/suggestions? gratuitous picture: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1086113482.jpg Regards, Rick |

Any other ideas/suggestions? Replace the voltage regulator with a new one, or one that you know is working. gratuitous picture: WOW NICE CAR. |
Check the wiring (driver's side of engine compartment) between the alternator and voltage regulator if you have an external voltage regulator. Jim

Thanks guys. The VR is on its way from PP. I love the 66. I love it even more with the 2.7 in it.
