2 batteries to 1
Hi,
I have a 69 911 which I am trying to get on the road soon. I have been told I can use one battery, and not two as original. I have purchased an Optima red top. Is there a process to "disarm" the other set of battery connections? Just wondering what is required. Thanks, Derek

For now, just wrap them in thickly in electrical tape until you find a better way. Make sure the hot lead will not "ground out."
Good luck, David Duffield |

Good choice. While not the lightest battery, it has an enviable reputation for cranking power and shelf life. The Optima will fit in either driver or passenger side; your choice. On my '69, I installed it on the driver's side. The late gas tank doesn't provide enough room to install the battery on the pass. side.
The battery will fit on it's side. My install has the top facing forward, ground post exposed. I fashioned some 3/4 - 1" flat aluminum stock to hold it in place vertically and horizontally, however I've seen several ways of accomplishing the same objective. I wouldn't use bungee or any other flexible material. Consider using an inexpensive battery cutoff switch. Another location is in the "smugglers" box. You can fabricate your own bracket or use one of the commercial battery brackets designed for this location. Use a battery maintainer when you're not using the car regularly. The procedure to awaken a discharged Optima is not difficult, but it's a hassle. Sherwood same Optima since '96 |
