Oil pressure relief valve

AKA External thermostat (I think)...

I managed to stump myself while replacing this wonderful piece of the cooling system and was hoping someone could help! I'll start by explaining why.. The car came off a jack and landed on the thermostat and broke the seal of one of those thermostat savers and it started leaking. So, I decided to replace my thermostat housing with another one that has threads that are in better condition. Anyway, I forgot to note the postion of the plungers in their bore and don't want to put it back together incorrectly and risk not circulating oil!
So, does anyone have any ideas on how these things fit so that oil will circulate properly?
Thanks a bunch,
Frustrated in Birmingham...

Brian, does knowing that the oil path to the cooler is always open help? The return from the cooler should be closed when the oil is cold. Also, when the oil is cold, oil flows from the inlet to the "to cooler" path and out the "outlet from the cooler" path.

I didn't realize the path to the cooler is always open, so that may be of some help. I was under the impression it never made it past the valve when cold. I'm not quite sure I followed this part though...

Thanks for your help Souk!

This should make up for my poor grammar.

Good luck. (technically, there is no flow to the cooler when the oil is cold, but the path is open to the cooler)

Thank you Souk. Your picture makes up for me being dense, not your poor grammar. I'll give it another go tonight. If all else fails, I'll just take it apart and start over again! I appreciate it!
