Question Oh no! Friend is offering me his 1970 Slant nose conversion for sale!

As someof you may know, I just got my 86 Super Sport less then 2 months ago. I am hooked to track it whenever possible but I am concerned of ruining what could posiblt be a jewel for my son when he is old enough to drive it.

So I been concidering getting a TRACK ONLY car, so this slant nose that my friend has for sale seems like the perfect candidate to me.

It is a (NO SMOG) required 1970 911 tub with F/G panels, carrera interior with a 1986 3.2 Motor with less then 66,000 (original)miles on it, however the motor had a top end rebuild in 2001 but has been driven less then 1000 miles since. Oh and basic carrera brakes.

(what do you think it iis worth?)

I was thinking I could keep the huge 11" wheels on the rearand the 9" on the front and replace the tires with slicks, remove seats, insert raceing seat and roll cage. Remove slant nose front and replace with RSR panels in front, remove Carrera bumpers and replcae with RSR F/G bumpers.

Whala! Track car!

You had me worried for a second, thought you were going to slant nose your car.
Price range I would not know about but if it is not way out there in price. A second car for track only would be my dream come true.

Part of the Porsche metique (to me) is the headlight and the fenders that suround them.

and yeah the hips too.
and the siloette
and the rear engine
and oil cool desing
and the flat six desing................

see what you started?

It's worth what you're willing to pay for it. What are they asking? Do you have any pics?

A 3.2 in an early tub is a fun track combo. I have one.
If you plan to run R rated or slick tires then the suspension needs some work. 2.5 camber minimum for even tire wear, perhpas RSR style front struts. Stiffer torsion bars and to control them you'll need custom revalved shocks.

Adjustable front and rear sway bars to tune the grip. Pagid orange brake pads all around. Maybe a fender oil cooler for warmer track days.

Then for Big Willow a 3.8 wing and a front splitter.

Hopefully the price is fair to allow for those upgrades. If not you could pay a little more and get a developed track car with proven lap times.
Just do it!

BRJ do you know John Risvold from HB?

The motor alone (66k and new top) is worth $4.5 or maybe $5k so if the bodywork/paint is good, $7k seems ok. As a frame of reference, I bought my 78sc for $5700 and it came with a strong 85 3.2. The body is in need of a respray though.

If its a dedicated track car, you'll end up wanting to go through the suspension, larger bars, new bushings tie rods etc. If it doesn't have a front cooler, you may need that since most of your tracks are in the desert. Even if you do it all yourself, you can drop a few bucks doing what it needs....ask me how I know

The only other thing you have to consider is what class a car like that would fall into and would it be competitive.

Lets see some pics.

I had no doubt I would be puting some money in to it to do the full conversion. But it would be much easier on the soul to do it to a car that is way beyond original already then my very original Supersport.

Not to mention the value diference betweent he two.

The hardest part will be to figure out how to justify another Porsche to my wife.

I might need to get rid of the Jeep Wrangler and that would be painfull in it self

You would probably end up sinking 10K or more into that car to make it a track car (assuming you don't need a really good paint job). But it would be a very fun track car - just make sure the tub is solid (minimal rust and no structural rust). I think that would fall into the Km class in PCA.

By the way, what is a 911 SuperSport?

I understand the 2 car thing! You have to hit them up when they are weak though..... when my wife broke it to me that she wanted our 2nd daughter, I took advantage and said sure.....as long as I get my 2nd 911. Ok, maybe that was low of me to take advantge of a womens maternal urge but, it worked

If you are willing to do it over time, do the work yourself and do not mind buying some used parts you can get some great deals. I have bought many parts from board members who are "moving up". I found my Dansk, pre-muff, track seat and even my 23/29's used.....50 cents on the dollar.

just mod the car you've got. By the time your kid is old enough to drive we won't be able to afford gas...
