How many folks here use their 911 as a daily driver?

to work, to the shops I do such short journeys its probably not a great idea but touch wood its been 100% reliable.
but..
I have noticed that the cabriolet novelty has worn off a little and I have been known to borrow the wifes 206 on some grey damp mornings.

Been driving the SC daily for about 4 years now. Lately I've been trying to drive the 'ol 40hp bug to work (11 miles round trip) but its SO hard to go back to 40 HP when you can have 180!

the lack of power steering is soooo not an issue even at parking speeds it can be done one handed if needed. You know there ain't no engine up there sittin' on them steering wheels! Power brakes are also not missed.

I have the same gasoline cost problem mentioned by someone else. I figure that I could buy a late '80s or early '90s honda civic beater for just under $1000 and pay for it with the savings on gas during my commute. (due to both improved milage and use of cheap grade gas). Yesterday I saw a station charging 2.699 for premium!!!!?!??!!! I swear it's gonna hit $3 before summer is out around here.

My 1975 is a daily driver except when the weather is really wet. I put 6000 miles on the car last year. The thing is a bit of a fuel miser actually; 26 MPG on the highway at 75 MPH. In combined driving I am seeing 21 to 23 MPG. Not bad for a car that goes like it does!

Yup, I drive it pretty much daily. I also take my 911 on long trips, and drive it to the track. I have put 20,000+ miles on my SC in almost a year.

Every day for almost 10 years now and approaching 110K miles. I could've bought a new Camry (yuk) for the same $ I paid for my used '88 Carrera in 1995, but glad I didn't!! Why wouldn't you use it as a daily driver?

My 86 Cab is my daily driver for my sales job. My territory ranges from the SF valley to the coast, up through SB way up to Paso Robles, across to Visalia and then down through Palmdale, Lancaster and back across through Burbank/Glendale etc.

In other words, its HUGE.

The 911 is the perfect car for a sales rep. Fast, gets you where you need to be in a hurry, handles great....stylish...draws positive comments from the clients.

I put approximately 3K a month on my 911. I purchased it last year at 64,000 and now have about 94,000 miles on it.

Tomorrow the 911 is going into the shop for routine maintanance:

valve adjust, new belts, new cam oil lines, check brakes and wheel bearings etc.

Id do this myself...but it and my gas is covered by my Car Allowance and Gas card.

Life is good.

Im going to buy a 997 when they come out, but am keeping the 86 as my daily driver and primary sales tool.

Dave, that rocks! I have a tandem and was wondering if would fit on the p-car...I have the same Yakima bike rack...gonna go put it on right now just to see what it looks like.

I drive my 87 Carrera every day to work. I use it for my Home Depot trips, Costco trips, and just about any other time I need to drive. It will see ~11,000 miles this year.

I drive my 79sc every day and the car seems to like it. About 7,000 miles a year, no problems. I especially like it in the rain but then I have good tires, SO-3s.

What are your concernes about using a 911 as a daily driver, is it maintenance costs, reliability, comfort, something else?

Wayne, That's a carved block of wood just behind the stoker's bottom bracket. It fits the bike rack tray and into the space between the lower frame tubes on the bike. Turns out to be very stable. Only problem is that when the rest of the bike and camping gear is in the car there's no room for the stoker.
