Fuel hose

My fuel hose going into the fuel filter has sprung a leak. I looks like a cloth weave hose and is pretty short...Is this indicative of other issues or just new gas in old hoses?? Pelican sell the one I need??

Sigh; Year, model and fuel/induction system?

New gas has nothing to do with it, it's old hoses. Pelican carries the braided fuel/vacuum hose or can order some of the original metal and rubber fuel lines. Other lines are NLA and who'll have to have a new rubber section attached to the metal section (swage on a ferrule usually). Cheers, Jim

The cloth covered one is all wet and I believe it is that one that is leaking. Gas smells VERY strong. I put some 93 or 94 in the car couple weeks ago.

The gas probably has nothing to do with your leak, just a coincidence. Your hose is probably just old as the hills (by about 30 years). When rubber hoses in a hot environment get that old they get really hard and brittle and they crack from flex and vibration. You are just overdue to install new hose.

Be sure to use fuel injection rated hose not the stuff they sell in front.

I had the hose section from the fuel pump to the accumulator leak at the crimp. a quick trip tot he hose shop fixed it for about $8.00 vs $65 for a new line. You can see a picture here at teh bottom of the web page: http://members.rennlist.com/harryd/1973fuelfilter.htm

They sell two types of fuel hoses. Make sure you use the one that says "fuel injection hose" on it (or the box). It also has says 'SAE R30'. They also sell "fuel injection hose clamps" which are a little heavier duty than the regular clamps. Others on this board have recommended Oedekirker (sp?) clamps which are crimp-on type clamps. Good luck. My first project on my 87 Targa was to replace the main fuel line, I rebuilt it myself at the suggestion of the people on this board, using the above mentioned items and saved about $900.00!

Just picked up some 50 PSI 3/8 fuel line. PLain rubber hose not "weave" fabric or aluminum on the outside. Will this be OK?

If it is stamped "SAE R30" or "fuel injection" then it is ok.

At all of the parts stores I use, you would need to ask the parts counter guy for the hose.

The hose has a metal braid inside it and it is hard to cut.
