I want to build an RSR clone, need your opinions

it has RUF rims (8's and 9's) and could be made to look like the yellow bird:

but I really want something more, like the RSR or the 934 above,
so what do you guys think?

Did any of you do the RSR conversion? If yes- where did you get the body kit and how was the quality?
Also, does anyone have any pics of the RSR interior?

You are going to need alot more motor to push the 934/RSR bodies though the air. They are like bricks on wheels

I would pick the RUF rep becuase it looks the most modern.

Not entirely correct... It really depends on how you go about it. If you try to do all steel then you will get a small weight hit. However, if you do all of the removable panels in FG or CF, replace windows with lexan etc... Then your talking a whole different animal. Do you want a wide body street car, or a track car. How "correct" do you want the replica? You can do a great looking, fast, track/semi street car, somewhat reasonably. I plan to spend around 25,000 on mine when I'm all done. The starter was an 82 sunroofless coupe I purchased for 6500.00... LOTS of time and $$$ to go!!!

GT Racing is probably the most comprehensive source of parts for any of the versions of car you are talking about. They have a good rep on the board, some will say "race only" for their parts, but I have a full IROC with duck on my street car... Parts were great.

Everybody's taste is different, but I think anything bigger than IROC/Turbo flares starts to look a little clown-car-ish, on the street. Are you thinking about it as a dedicated track car, or a very extreme-looking street car?

You'd need a good two lanes of roadway - or a runway! - to get enough room for that a$$!

I'd go for the Yellow bird rep with your current car and start again for the RSR!

Yellowbird. You are almost there. If you must go wide, go IROC.

The 934 is awesome, but its going to be very expensive and difficult to replicate. Ive read that it requires two sets of flares, turbo flares and the the bolt on 934 flares. To me, the centerlock wheels on the 934 are a big part of the look. They will be absurdly expesnive and difficult to find. Getting an engine that backs up the look wont be easy either ;)

I would also go for RUF. Then get another car and build the 934. If you choose other than RUF, hmm.... would be interested in the RUF-wheels.

I'll second Jack O's and Shuie's opinions. Go IROC if this is car will ever be street driven. RUF as an alternative.

There is a set of centerlock 934 hubs on ebay for 3500.00...

This is a good thread to ask. A while back there was a thread with some pictures from a race (possibly in Europe) that had a number of wide-body duck tail 911's. Can someone point me to that or give me a search tip?

mx325. you are lucky. you need to meet tom martenot at deutsche motorsports in concord, ca. he just finished a clone for himself that is friggen amazing. he ended up selling it to a buddy. he likes to chat. i cannot emphazise how stunning his clone is. he painted it a non standard color. sort of a shiny gunmetal grey. maybe you can see it at the next autocross. as i understand it. some CHP dude bought it and is kicking some A at the events. breathtaking! i wished i had some pictures of it, because. just because. tom is doing another one, and he has a yellow early body in his lot about to get the same treatment.

your car looks awesome as is,but that`s not the point l guess as a lot of us started out that way.l`ve got the same Carrera body as you and l wanted to put the bolt on 993 GT2 flares on my car,l love that look.Yeah,l know they "won`t fit,blah blah" but l`ve seen it done and it looks incredible.The aero advantage of the narrow body kept me away though and l went with custom front fenders that use 993 lights,sort of a slantnose look.check out the silver bullet picture thread for more

the iroc look is awesome but how about going earlier, ie 73 RSR?

I have Tom Martenot's first car - basically an RS look track car with a duck tail and a 3.2 engine based on an SC case. Here is a picture of my car being driven by the prior owner:

I just moved to Bay area from East coast, so I am kind of new and don't know a lot of people here.

I have 2 e30 M3s that I use for race track evens, so Porsche will be mainly Sunday/show car. Even though I took the 911 to the race track few times, I like the e30 M3 better (but that is another topic all together) ...

I do not know Tom - just that he built my car. Why not try the old fashion way - call information - I would not think there are too many Tom Martenots in the Bay Area doing work on 911s. You could probably do a search here as well and I bet some info may pull up. Good luck.
