AC Thermostat
It appears like the thermostat has finally gone bad. Lucky for me Houston is only in the low 90's. How do I replace it? Pull the old unit out of the dash and simply plug in a new one. BTW freon check out and I have been noticing the vent temps fluctuating from high 50's to high 60's. Switch never did much to change temps anyway.

Are you referring to the switch next to the fan speed switch in the center console? Do you have a picture?

You said you were sure you do not have too much or too little freon? A faulty expansion valve could also cause this to happen. Also, have you checked your receiver/dryer?

The shop checked the freon and it looked to be at the correct pressures. How do you check the expasion valve? The shop was thinking that the valve was going bad several months ago when I had the system topped up with freon then. The evaporator and receiver were replaced about 4 years ago in an attempt at getting some cool air. Actually for about a year or so I was getting very cold sub 50 degree air at the vents. Maybe it is the expansion valve.

Since you have pretty much ruled out everything else, that would be where I would put my money. BTW, it is recommended that the receiver/dryer be replaced anytime the system is opened up and replacing the expansion valve requires a system breach.
Let me know if I can help further. ![]()
