Help me find the "Rocket Scientists" ad
Hi all,
There was an ad in Car and Driver magazine in the mid eighties. It was a flailing Porsche Turbo (I think) going about a million miles an hour, just cresting the top of a hill. All four wheels were off the ground and there was dust and debris flying all over the place. The tagline under the pic said something like "Who says rocket scientists aren't german?". I'd love to find a poster of this, or the original ad in frameable condition. Thanks! mike |

If I'm not mistaken the tag line was something like...."Why Most Rocket Scientists Are German" Is one of my all time favorite ads. Unfortunately I can find the picture but not the ad with the tag line. Shucks!

Ahh...this is a pet project of mine. I am working on recreating that poster, but have had a hard time finding a high enough resolution shot and quality for repro at poster sizes. Some of the guys on Rennlist sent me what they had, but it was a scan and needs a lot of photoshop work. Not impossible, but I just don't have the time right now. Here is my progress so far. Still needs a lot of p-shop work:

I've got the full ad at home. Tell me how you want it scanned - if that'll work.
I bought the magazine new because it had the newnewnew Acura NSX on the cover.... |
Ahhhhhh, yes! That's the one! I would love to at least get something I could get one of my buddies with a digital press to print for me. You're right...it might be tough to find a high res on, and a magazine scan might not do the trick. But...if someone wants to scan it at whatever size (1200 dpi?) they can, we can always downsample it.
I can do some Photoshop work as well if needed. Thanks! mto |
Isn't that one of the posters that Jerry Seinfeld had on his appartment wall for the set of the TV show. I think the other poster he had was an RSK spyder done for the west coast holiday in Steamboat.
|
I have this in a full size poster.
Got it in the mid/late eighties in high school. Was my inspiration. Now on my wall in my Shop in my basement |
I have it, but it was run as a double truck on two facing pages ....so it has a seam in the center. I can scan it for you but you will have to doctor the seam area.
|
When you figure out the posters, I WANT ONE. Thanks!
|
I think I have one of these still new in the poster tube out in my garage. I got it from a buddy of mine that got it as a promotional item with his name on the license plate.
|
Yes. Jerry Seinfeld did have this on his wall in some of the early episodes.
|
That's one of my favorite posters. I found and purchased one on EvilBay a couple of years ago. If I remember correctly, I paid about $25 for it.
|
Slider...can I buy it? I'm just up the road in Boulder!
|
emptyo,
Not sure that I want to sell it but if you would like to scan it I am sure we could hook up for that. I'll have to look and make sure I can find it. |
Ok. Are you going to the Concours event on Sunday?
|
I should be there sometime after lunch, I am bringing my nephew down to check out the cars.
|
Slider (Is that your real name? Are you a pilot? ;) ) PM me your phone # and we'll hook up out there. If only to say "hi!"
