Is there a cheap or easy way to fix this, or am I looking at a full panel respray? ![]()

by the way....no cheap way really....looks like there is a lot of paint on that panel as well as some plastic filler.....bite the bullet and have it fixed right

Terms like "cheap" are relative. I agree with Don. I'm sure there's 4-5 hours labor plus materials in this job. So, a WAG would be 500. Is that cheap? To me for a car like that, yes.
BTW, how'd that occur? Looks like it's right in line with the tire shoulder. |

I don't know HOW it occured to be honest. I got the car back from an ex-workshop. It seems they had scratched BOTH fenders in exactly the same spot and covered it with touch up paint. A few weeks later, the paint flaked off and it's been raining, so it's started rusting a bit

those bubbles occur when you have tire rub and the paint is heated up from the inside of the guard. If you put your hand up inside the guard you will feel the smooth part where the tire has rubbed.

It's unlikely it's tyre rub. I have 1" spacers on the rears and the tyres sit right at the edge of the guard's lip.

my 2 cents...if you look at the location and shape... when the tire deflects up and cambers in....likely to hit right there...I bet a cup of coffee it's tire rub. Certaintly you want to be sure before you repaint..no use doing it twice or more.. how about take the tire off take a picture and send out...

What kind of cornering would be causing that though? I drive my car daily and I NEVER corner hard and fast! This only happened after I got the car back from a mechanic and he had covered up the areas (left & right fenders) scratch with touch-up paint

i've also seen pretty much identical damage - from tire rub
take off the wheel and shoot a pic of the inside of the wheel arch - if there's a matching shiny spot then its tire rub easy to do on low cars (or cars with big dia wheels) whilst cornering, hitting bumps, squatting under acc'n etc etc my (now former) 930 used to squat a huge amount under boost and it had larger than stock torsion bars

I don't necessarily think the damage was the mechanic's fault (I have no axe to grind here). It looks like the cause is a tire fitment gone wrong.
The fix would be to get the tire clearance issue cleared up first, then address the paint, which does not look like a relatively expensive repair. The burnt spot should be blended with the surrounding paint, so there is no clear "line" of new vs. old paint. |

I don't think it's tires rub either since the distant between tire and fender roof. But why not look under there for tire rub mark.

That happened to my hotted up HQ. (Lowered, 265's up the rear....sik)The fatts at the back slowly rubbed away at the inner guards unbeknownst to me untill one day a small crack opened above the lip. Within weeks all hell broke loose and it looked very much like your damage. IMO its not generally something that happens over a short period of time (i.e your Mech taking out for a Ferris Beullering).
Get it cleaned out, bogged and painted on the cheap because if you repair it properly ($$$) it will only happen again. Unless you install the standard rims again and run the risk of cruising the streets looking like Mr. T wearing stilettos........

![]() Yeh, I jacked the b*stard up last night and had a feel underneath the area of damage and the panel is smooth, indicating prolonged tyre rub. I was just surprised I hadn't noticed the paint bubble until I got it back from the workshop. Ah well, ***** happens. I'm going to have to fix it on the cheap for now and fit some VERY stiff rear torsions to minimise squatting under acceleration. At the moment when the boost kicks in hard, the front end points to the sky
