Why is my engine oil colored green?
I over filled the engine with oil so I siphoned some out. At first the oil looked normal, but it was a duistinctly green after about a quart? The engine was reassembled in Feb at 58,026. It now has 62,227 miles ... over 4K since reassembly with new piston rings.
Did I blow a head gasket? Is anti-freeze getting into the engine? ... haha ... just kidding. thanks. Last edited by devo230; 06-06-2004 at 01:32 PM.. |

Is it Kendall? They use a green dye or something. Are you sure you know the color when new?

Sounds like Kendall. Although, I believe they (now Conoco/Philips) discontinued the "green" additive a while back. Oh, and you should have changed the oil a lot earlier than 4k miles on a fresh rebuild!

How green is the oil? Fluorescent green? I have seen a fluorescent green dye added to engine oils to determine sources of oil leaks. Perhaps your rebuild shop did this so that if there were any leaks after the job they could determine their location?

Thanks for the good replies. It's medium green like lawn grass (I'm not great with colors). I'll call the seller on this. I just picked it up yesterday. Is Amsoil green?
