Do I dare do a wheel like this?

You know how goofy I am coming up with weird off-the-wall goodies. Just for grins and giggles, I could make some track wheels like this. The base rim is a Centerline 15 x 7 drilled for Porsche.

Not grazy about the look Milt maybe in black ? On the other hand if they are lightweight and cheap and are just to track the car why not

They have kinda a cool industrial/aero look to them. Are they light?

Hmmm...could the openings be finned, like fan blades, to aid in brake cooling?

Very light and strong, I would assume with the extra outer piece.

The orgin of these is CART inspired. This type of wheel was used in the 90's in various configurations for aero effects on CART cars on the high speed ovals and at Indy when they last ran there. The rule was no less than 20 sq. in. of opening, IIRC. The covers were welded to the usual racing wheel and the weld was dressed in a lathe. Eventually, CART outlawed the concept to slow the cars. Penske had the nicest ones and these are a knock off of his except that his had a little outward convex shape. His were the only ones to be other than flat. He put a similar cover on his transporters and I think they still run them.

When these were on another vehicle, they were attached with buttonhead Allen 10/32 machine screws into the rim. No leak problems there as many have staked thier tires with screws into the tire bead from the same area. Sprint cars come to mind with their low tire pressures.

I guess it's a slow Monday in windowworld.

Got a pic of entire car like that?

Man, are you good or what? Yes, they were on a Chevy truck. I could put a Porsche crest in the center. I think that would do the trick. Just a a decal one.

Heres your pic:

Thank you

that looks great!!!... I've always wanted to have a really nice car (ie. fast 911), but have it in primer(ish) paint/color. I love that mean look. The color seems to just blend with the hue of the tires, the brake-dust-covered fuchs, yet the shiny trim and door handles make it look right.

Yes, the car had just come off the Ca Speedway, but you can't see brake dust in that pic, can you? That's just track dirt from me driving all over the track on and off the racing line.

Hey, as far as spinning, I can do anything. Lets see, where's my wife's lazy susan h'ordeuvres tray?

Kinda looks like a directional wheel from the front of an 80s Chevy dually. Most modified old rims don't inspire confidence.

Milt looks much better with the Fuchs.

Mike, you are absolutely correct and I plan on some 15 x 7 Fuchs for my daily wheels. I will hold the deep sixes for posterity. I have BBS 15 x 7 for track wheels. I will hang on to the Centerlines and the covers too. Hell, maybe I'll have as many sets of wheels as Jack has tails.

LOL. No Milt, I can't SEE the brake dust, or much of anything else. In fact, those wheels are gleaming, but I'm imagining the dull look the black parts get when coated with brake dust (....and I find it appealing, concourse-ready I might add)
