Lousey shifting at the track

It seems no matter how slow I shift at the track I'm nicking the dog gears yet far less on the street? Here is my sistuation, I run the 930 4spd that was recently rebuilt (all sliders, synchros and dog gears and then some), New WEVO shifter and Smart Racing coupler with new bushings (like a rachet), new OE motor mounts last year and fluid. I'm still upset that my old truck will shift better than my car but that's life I guess. Do you guys think the increased shifting difficulties is due to higher sustained rpms? Can't think of anything else and would solid motor mounts help? Don't know what else to do.

Thanks,

Brent

Go after the simple things first...are all items properly adjusted, including free-play under the trans? Are you depressing the clutch fully to the floor during shifts?

What do you mean by free play under the trans? I know the clutch is adjusted right since I did it myself and didn't make any difference between when my mechanic did and myself. Yes, the clutch cable is being depressed all the way then pausing before shifting and it will nick the dog on the track but not the street. While the cable is stretched it's really close to the stock spec. for travel. Not to mention the shifter is aligned correctly too.

Could you please re-phrase the Shakespearean, "It seems no matter how slow I shift at the track I'm nicking the dog gears yet far less on the street? "

It sounds like you're getting some 'crunch' then? If it's only doing it on the track and not the street, then one can assume it's the heat of the battle that's dogging thee, forsooth? Does it do this every lap, or only after you get it warmed up? Up-shifts, downshifts, or both?

My first impulse would be to upgrade the trans fluid. 2nd would be to install a trans cooler - that made a [i]huge[/] difference on my track shifting.

What I mean by slow shifting is depressing the clutch pedal all the way then pause and shift out of gear with a little pause before going into the next gear lightly. You can't shift much slower than that. It will happen just about every lap and thank god I don't have to shift much. Hmmm, it could be when things get really warm but not sure, good point. Have only seen one time a trans. oil cooler for the 930. Yes, I do need to upgrade the fluid next time around. So it sounds like either rpms, heat or fluid could be the reason.

Thanks

I was talking about the free-play adjustment...I'm assuming it's much like 915's....the 0.1mm gap. Make sure the gap is correct. Made a big difference on my 915.

Thanks

Or inattention in the heat of battle BTDT.

Here's my trans cooler setup. I can really tell the difference in shifting with and without it.

Sweet setup, how much did that set you back? I forgot which gear oil weight I have right now but it's Redline which is a good product but maybe not as good for shifting? Another Porsche guy I trust runs Swepco 210 with some Lucas oil. He swears by it and I will be doing that next. It could be better if it keeps the temps down more than what I have before. Not sure if solid motor mounts will help much since alot of people say it works and others say it doesn't. Still want to understand this free play thing better.
