Photoshop Gurus! Please look!
I think I speak for many when I say.... "how do you guys do all of that photoshop stuff??" Where and how do you learn this stuff. I have looked at the program many times and apparently lack the mental prowess to figure it out. Earlier today I saw the thread where somoeone changed the wheel color to 4 different colors seemingly instantly. I want to do this stuff please tell me about some of the sites or books I can look at to learn. I know this is off topic but here is a photo to try and keep it on topic. I wonder what my car would look like black??

Can't you make that pic any smaller?
![]() There are a ton of different Photoshop manuals in the computer section of any bookshop. Maybe look at reviews on amazon to find the good ones. |

Baptism by fire. We had PhotoShop on one of the computers and the boss came in and told me I was going to become an "expert" immediately since she had just sold a client on the fact that we had an "expert" in house. A lot of trial and error, asked a few friends when I had questions. It's not that bad once you learn the fundamentals.

see... no problem!
![]() ![]() seriously, photoshop is a very powerful program that will do way more than most people require... take a class and/or buy one of the many available books (with tutorials), and play with it lots.

I personally find Deke McClelland's Photoshop Bibles to be the best books to read/use. Other than than it is all cubic time.
When I was teaching classes, a big thing I had to get through to the students was in PS, for whatever you are going to do, there are probably a couple of different wayts to do it. Different methods to attain the same result. For example, I can think of about five different ways to do the wheel color change thing. And there I think at least 11 different ways to change the zoom level alone. It all depends on how you work. So don't expect to "know" the program in a weekend. I have worked with it over a decade and still feel as I am only using a tenth of the program.

ok someone asked if it could be smaller, and it's now black.
![]() ![]() I have never used photoshop...just ol' MS Paint and modify images pixel by pixel.

I don't have PS, but in the little experience I have with this stuff, you click in a tool bar like the paintbrush and then use the enhanced cursor to click on a color highlighting it. Then you go to the pallet of colors and click on the one you want. Presto.
I had one program that I could pick a color off the zoomed image from a pixel and paint that color in elsewhere. Crude at best, but when you are working on a huge zoomed page, then shrunk, it looks just OK. |

I like the Photoshop for Dummies books. They give you more than enough info to get you through projects. Once you advance, the Photoshop Bible provides a very thorough instruction. There are also "trick" type books. If you want to send some questions, I'll be more than happy to give you some steps.
Good luck, David

As with most PC programs, I usually prefer the "trial and error" (ala cubic time) method. When I first got PS, I just went through a bunch of images with certain resutls in mind, and eventually figured out how to get them. Although, I still consider myself a Rank Amatuer with PS, and there are a LOT of things about it that I am still trying to learn.
I'm usually not motivated enough to go through a manual/book (in depth) though, especially when it's 2" thick! I think a hands-on class or two would probably help a lot. ![]() |

Check to see if "Tutorials" were installed with Photoshop on your machine. THere is also lots of info in the Help menus.

Ahhh check to see if there are tutorials -- good idea. Also I am going to pick up a ps for dummies and see if I can get far enough with that. I dont want to alter the grand canyon I just want to mess with colors and looks of photos.
