? solution to steel RSR front early flares
Hi everyone ...
Does anyone know of a good solution to getting wide steel RSR flares for early body 911 pre '74 , I can get either fiberglass early flared fenders , or fiberglass flares to blend onto early fenders, but i would like to go steel, for street durability. Is there anything avail ??? Im starting to spec out my next project car for this winter , and would like to possibly go either ... a/ RSR early 911 coupe with steel flares all around b/ 934 turbo body coupe 1974 + look Thanks in advance... - Joe - |

There is no source for these sections. I don't think the factory flares are avaiable. You will have to make your own.
I started to make bucks for the filler pieces. Never finished them though. I can send you some pics if I can find them in the garage. Jamie

You can always cut steel 930 fenders and weld on to the pre-74 steel. I just aquired a set that was done that way, only I’m not sure about the attachment because I havent’t removed the paint yet.

Thanks for the replies so far
![]() Cant use 930 front flares ..they are too short for the early fenders , unless you fabricate some formed metal extensions to make the flares longer ?? Joe |

Nein has a good idea. Use the lower section of a 930 flare welded onto another flare. You just have to make sure that the contours are the same. Custom work is enevitable. I do have that new pneumatic plannishing hammer I have been wanting to try along with the panel beaters bag. Maybe I will experiment.

I will take a look at the fenders tonight and take some pictures for you guys. Let’s see if we can shine some light as to how this is done.

If you have a fiberglass version that is the coorect shape, I have a buddy with an english wheel that can make you whatever you want in steel or aluminum.

Here are a couple of pictures of handmade steel front RSR flares uses on various Gunnar restorations.
![]() ![]() ![]() There is no mention of who makes them. (Possibly in-house?). |

![]() By the looks of this pic they molded (hammered) the steel over fiberglass flare, like RPMClassic suggested.

This is part of the caption for that photo:
......These fenders in the photo are actually fiberglass ones, but we'll be using the original steel ones on this car. Sounds like they may have been just using them for display purposes? |

Here are the front fenders that I just got. They appear to be a one piece flare that is bondoed (notice I didn’t say bonded) to a stock fender. When I strip the paint off of them, I can find out for sure how they were put on.
