89 911 upgrades/mods

I totaled my 83SC this past Christmas Day. I have finally decided
to come out of mourning and get another car.
I have found a bone stock 1989 911 with 100,000 miles on it.
What are the most popular/necessary upgrades or mods ?
I want a muffler, cannot afford the SSI's so just a bypass and muffler, I want to chip it also, from what I read here, Steve Wong
seems to be a good buy there. I have no clue on muffler but the Fabspeed has been recommended . I read something about
the clutch fork and needle bearing is last months Excellence on these 89 911's any info on that ? Is there anything else
that has made a difference with these cars ? This car has been lowered so that is a plus. The car is also in need of a upper engine rebuild and the price reflects that so that is not a
concern. I am going to miss the SC, she was my first and I looked
for another SC but I could not find one that I liked, It either looked like my old car or was not as nice as my old car..... just too many memories. It is kinda like if your were dating a blonde and she broke your heart your get a brunete to forget the blonde.
This may be lame but it made sense to me ! or maybe I don't
want to be bannished for straying away from the SCWDP.

Thanks
Chuck

Go with a Steve Wong chip and European pre-muffler. Not sure about aftermarket mufflers as mine is stock.

All 89's built after 4/89' already have the clutch fork upgrade. With 100K miles, I doubt the car has an original clutch, so the update may have already been done, if your car was built before 4/89.

It will probably need shocks if they are original. Many Pelican's recommend Bilstein HD's in front and sports in the rear. I have a Targa with HD's all around, since the car isn't as stiff as a coupe. The ride is fine and the handling is much better than with the soggy original Boges.

Good luck with your new Toy, I really think you'll love it!

l`d investigate the need for a rebuild before going ahead with any mods since you`re looking at some real money there. What`s happening with the engine?ls it using a lot of oil?

Nothing against the SC, but drive the '89 for a few weeks and you'll forget about the SC. You're gonna love the G50 and the more refined interior. etc, and '89 is as good as it gets for that era.

My '89 had 98K when I bought it in '98, and I didn't hestate for a second because of that. Obviously, a good PPI is a must. I have 128K on mine now, including 2 1/2 years of monthly DE track events, and it's still running strong.

I have SSIs but ran a cat pipe and a gutted stock muffler for a couple years before the switch. The HP difference was minimal, just a bit of extra mid-range torque, not worth the expense, IMO. I have a Monty now and like it a lot. Not B&B loud and just the right 911 sound.

Check out my gallery links for all the mods I've done.

Do you plan on any track time? That may help you make the call between Bilsteins and Konis, bigger sway bars, etc.

If you haven't bought the '89 yet, good luck on the purchase.
