But how can a 37K mile car have a 2" thick stack of receipts & documents?

If the book in ? is the one in the last pic, I'll buy you lunch if it's over 3/4" thick. I think the writer is so used to stretching things that he stretched that one in the wrong direction. http://jm.g.free.fr/smileys/briques.gif

cmon bill, just because the book is two inches thick doesnt mean that its filled. if it was i would be really interested with what it was filled with since it is a "concours winning" car. maybe all the reciepts from car washes haha.

I would like to see a close up of the targa top. Engine bay looks clean with the cheap new heater hoses. It looks like it has the tensioner updates. I would be curious as to what the reserve is.

where's the airpump?

Interior looks like mine did when I got it (at 41K). Seems like the real deal to me, but I'd worry about what (if anything) has been replaced, and whether its been driven lately.

Well, it is a nice car. But concours winning?? With the Pep Boys heater hose and janky-looking fan? Must have been a real small town concours. My semi-daily driver SC has a better looking engine compartment. This was after the rebuild:

37K miles or not, it's still 26 years old. $15K opening bid is too high. These cars are meant to be driven not parked and gawked at. Maybe an $11K opening bid is more like it an ending with $13.5. Now, if it still had the OE 8 track....

Good eye. 78 should have one.

I think I can see the feed line for a carrera tensioner on the drivers side. It also lists a 4 speed transmission. Probably a typo.

Denis, I noticed after the rebuild that the oil tank breather hoses that come up the right side of the motor are connected on the motor instead of off to the right hand side. What exactly is this for?

But for a mint show car, I think that's pretty darn tacky. Maybe it indicates other goodies, like SSI?

On the price, you guys always have to figure in the stealership markup. At the local "toy" stores, there is not a single car I consider market value. Regardless, people buy them there. They feel better than buying from a private party and more importantly, the stealerships usually offer financing.

The way the paint looks under the rear deck lid, I'd bet money it has been repainted. Even at that mileage, the paint will never clean up that nicely, especially in those seams where the wuarters hit the rear clip.

Is that an aftermarket ignition box?

A 2" stack of receipts is possible. If the car was properly maintained, there should be about 25 receipts for oil/filter changes alone!

I'm building up quite a stack myself with only 17K miles. :-(

sorry, but I disagree (about the price...I agree about the driving part). If this is an original low miles car that hasn't been wrecked/repainted, it is worth high teens (and maybe more, especially if it were a coupe). Despite the fact that SC/Carreras aren't rare, original low miles examples *are* getting sparse. And as Denis has so eloquently stated before, you can't turn a pickle back into a cucumber. The first 100K are arguably the "best" 100K of the car.

That isn't to say that this car won'te require a chunk of money to replace somethings and tidy it up. But then someone will have a very well sorted low miles car. Of course it will then be depreciating as it is driven, but some people (like me) don't care. They'd rather have a very nice example to drive the snot out of.

There's a butt for every seat. Some people don't want to pay a premium for a low miles car, others do. But in general I think sub-40K original cars will fetch a pretty good price and sell easily.

Yes, SC's came with the sound pad, and that car has it. You can see it in the pics.

I also disagree that $15K opening is too high, if the car is really as represented. Maybe it won't sell on eBay this time around, but that car should easily sell for no less than $15K, if it is as represented.

(BTW, automotively speaking, you CAN turn a pickle back into a cucumber. It just takes a lot of money. $75,000 would turn any SC back into a very nice, valuable cucumber!).

Looks like a pretty nice SC and a good color combo for a Targa IMO.

I think older Porsches under 20K are a good value when you figure what else you can get for the same kind of money in the weekend toy department. And they hold their value pretty well and combine fun with function better than anything I can think of. :)

I could also do a rotiserie/bare metal resto on my '91 Volvo 940 wagon for ~$40k, and when it was done maybe sell it for, oh who knows, $5-6k !! :D

And just like the $75k SC, the main problem would be avoiding the guys in white suits w/ Butterfly nets chasing me around. ;)

As for the whole "these cars are made to be driven" drivel, the cars are inanimate objects that don't give a rat's ass whether they are driven or used as a prop in an '80s porno shoot.

"Made to be driven" alright...., and that high-milage turd was made to be driven by someone else, the guy that got all of the best miles out of it! :cool:

I'm going to put this on my eBay watchlist to keep track of it. I'd really like to know what this car sells for. Anyone want to bet on the selling price?
