Exclamation White SMOKE!!!! even when turned OFF!!

Hey Guys,
I have a question.,. I think I know what it may be but I would like some second opinions.
I have had my car up for about 3 weeks and I have had the rear end jacked up on jack stands..
so it has been sitting at a nose down attitude. ( for 3 weeks now ) I finally put my new 9" fuchs on the rear and i was HAPPY as a HOG in *****!. I tok her out for a 35 minute or so hard run after she warmed up and all from sitting..
I do not have any heat so the pipe from the SSI's are open for now.. and I noticed a small hint of smoke from the right side SSI heater pipe opening.. i figured it was no biggie as the car has been sitting.. so I took off on my drive...
I pulled back in ( about 30-40 minutes later ).. and I turn her off.
now the rear end has white smoke coming out heavy.. I can see it from inside the car so i freak and think she is on FIRE!.. so I pop the rear and get ready to unload the HALON on her.. but it isn't on fire as far as I can see.. it's just smoking big time from the open heater pipe from the SSI's... so I think to myself there must be a fire *inside* the heat exchanger.. so I keep a VERY close eye on this looking for a flame to show at anytime..
but nothing.. and finallly the smoke slows and stops ... but it was still coming out 7 mintes after i had turned the car off..
Do you guys think I have a problem hgere a fire hazard!!.. do you thinki have oil INSIDE the SSI's on the right side?
and if so, how would I get it out.. or should i simply let it bake itself off and keep a very close watch on it..
Please lemme know guys.. sorry if that was hard to follow.. but i am worried to drive the car now as it may burn down to the ground on me and I do NOT want that..

Thanks !
Eric Mckenna

What's wrong with a little fire?
Seriously, burning oil would not produce white smoke. And you would smell oil. Did you hear a hissing sound? Was it wet outside. I think water collect somewhere and it started to evaporate once the engine was hot and standing still.

No it's wasn't steam like water.. it had a whitish color.. and smelled like a bit of burning oil...
Do you think oil collected up in the HE on the right side and simply started to burn ?
I am worried as my Buddy and i are taking my car this weekend to a car show and I don't want her to burn up.
Is there some way to check the HE for Oil inside of it?

Eric all that has happened, as you suspect, is that oil has leaked, probably from a return tube, and the oil had made its way into the heat exchanger. Just need to go out and run it longer. Not a big deal, al

Eric, the same white smoke appears under my 911 the sometimes. I have a couple of oil leaks near my return tubes that drip on to my HE's, a little white smoke is no big deal.

Prob. no biggie - take it for a run and see what happens. Keep an eye on the rear view mirror or take a passenger. Or wire up a video cam to a laptop on the pass. seat...

Eric,

I had a similar situation once, when I disconnected the fan hose to the heat exchanger. My conclusion was that the without the air running through the heat exchanger, they tend to get much much hotter. Thus, the burning of the oil that was inside of the there. Hook the hoses back up and I bet this will stop.

Eric,

Put a flapper valve on the heater box opening and connect it to your heater cable. This way you can modulate it and you can trail morse code.

Seriously though, don't worry. I'm running mine with heaters disconnected and I see that every time I take the valve covers off because a little oil then runs into the heater boxes. It will burn off soon enough. It's just oxidized and vaporized oil. It does not burn.

Regards

yeah those exchangers would have to be a lot hotter than that to catch oil on fire. I like the new pope theory.

W/O heat, you will have to live with it and be careful not to get oil on the exchangers when you do valve adjustments and fix any valve cover leaks. If you are planning to take that thing to Mid-Ohio in October, you should get the heat hooked back up. It will help with defrosting and defogging the windows.

Thanks guys for all the helpful stuff.
I feel much better about it all.

Noel..
Nah......i have already pulled it all out. ( it's all dead weight.
I will find a way to work with the fogging issue if it becomes one another way.
i'll simply save my spit for a month and whip it all in the inside of the window. hahahaha
Thanks guys
