What would happen if I try to run my car without or bypass the Thermo Valve temporarily?

I'm just finishing my rebuild and I cant seem to locate a used one of these guys. I also cant bear to cough up 100+ for a new one.

Try it. If I recall correctly, the thermovalve allows about 30 second of mixture enrichment on a cold start. The warmer it is the shorter the period of enrichment, and at some point there is no enrichment. You probably will not see an effect in the summer.

In the meantime, I assume that yours came apart. If you have all the parts, polish them up a little and reassemble with epoxy around the perimeter. Keep the epoxy out of the internals. Did mine 10 years ago and it is still operating.

$125 if I recall, 10 years ago. The only time I have refused delivery on a part from the dealer. Simply outrageous.

Ouch, $100+! Maybe someone has a good used one, try posting in the classifieds.

I've been running without a thermovalve for years on my '80 euro. It came to me without one. It won't hurt anything, just makes it a little more difficult to get the warmup mixture correct. I wouldn't put off running the car because of it.

Yahhhhh... I just missed one that a guy had in the PP classifieds for 10.00 :(

I went thru some previous threads and there is a bit of info about removing the EGR and the whole SMOG system in general which is what I did.

Being a California car and that this valve helps the car warm up sholdnt be to big of a problem (what I tell myself) since it never gets too cold here.

Refresh my CIS memories. That valve bypasses the throtle plates to up the rpm when cold to overcome friction correct?

You could do the same thing by stepping on the throttle (aka heel and toe)?

No. The valve operates on the warmup regulator to lower the control fuel pressure, thus richen the mixture.

It was added in 78 which was never really needed in prior years.
