Headliner Repair?

I have a rip in my otherwise good burgundy headliner. It is about 3 in. long by the sunroof zipper where my mechanic pulled too hard . . .

He the did me the great favor of running a line of Goop along the tear. It looks great.

I was wondering if anyone has 'patched' such a tear. I can imagine, since the burgundy color is so dark, a black patch maybe sewn in to the liner [with maybe a matching patch on the other side of the zipper to balance out]. Just looking for options other than replacement.

thanks,
todd

If its near the zipper, open the zipper, use strong tape from the inside.
If needed stitch with hole into the tape.

If it along the edge seam, use 3M upholstery glue.

when i installed a new headliner i stretched a tear at a corner of the coup's roof lite. I'm going to squeese a 3m glued small piece in there and probably use some shoe polish. I almost have to fill a hole.

His name wouldnt be "Bob" from Precision Motorsport would it? Did he break a couple of oil lines while he was in there... or perhaps breaking 2 of your window switches as well.

Anyway.... I have the same problem on my headliner (no Bob didnt have anything to do with it, luckily)... but after looking into the situation, it seemed much easier to just replace the material myself, rather than attempting a goofy patch. do a search on this message board for "headliner" and you will come up with several useful threads on the topic.

I would just replace the whole headliner. They are pretty cheap about $90 US I think. Then get someone to install it for you as apparently they are a real pain in the ass to install.

All the windows etc have to come out and they are tricky to do.

I got mine done earlier in the year, and am happy with the fresh new look.
