CIS differences btw. '80 and '83
I noticed some differences on the '80 CIS I'm swapping onto an '83 engine. Here's one...
'80 CIS with rear line: :http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1087448278.jpg '83 without the rear line: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1087448321.jpg What is this line and why does the '83 not have it? Think I'll run into any problems installing the older CIS on the newer engine? Looks like I need a new line either way. -Ben |
It's the oil breather hose, running to the oil tank filler. Didn't know it wasn't on a 83 though. Sure looks like it needs replacement. I also see in your picture (83) on the right a deceleration valve/vacuum limiter. This is suposed to be on either a row engine or a pre 80 engine. To make things even more complicated. I also have a 1983 engine 930/09 with a 1978 930/03 set up. So I do have the hose and the decl. valve. Hope this info is of any help.
Gerko 1978sc By the way do you have an engine number of the 83 engine? |

I didn't know about that oil line not being there on the 83 myself. Don't worry about problems. On mine, an 80, the lambda and the control box are gone. The ignition distributor is 83 euro. The fuel distributor is 83 euro. So is the WUR along with all the air hoses and valves on the right side of the motor. I had to go with the euro fuel distributor sice both the us 80 and 83 have a frequency valve connection on the back. The 78-79 and all euros do not. I like those 83 euro 930/10 parts. More than the us and euro 78-79. The car seems to run better at the top with that stuff. In fact, it hauls ass. These things seem to run ok no matter what kind of mix you have going on. I just try to simplify things for the hell of it. If one year had two less hoses of whatever, that's the configuration I go with. It's worked so far.

Thanks guys. The engine number off the 1983 are 6403746 , 930/16
|
So a 930/16 would have started it's original live as a US spec engine.

I know a lot of owners who has capped that line. I'm just wondering whether capping the oil breather line would increase oil pressure?
