Porsche Crest newbie-vacuum advance on 2.7 with webers

Hi,
This is my first posting...
I have a eurospec 2.7 running webers. Today I took my car to a PM close to my home, we talked about getting a bit more low rev response from the engine. He inspected it and suggested that we hook up a vacuum advance hose from the distributor to the intake manifolds and reset the timing...

I'm interested in other opinions... has anyone else done this, is it
worthwhile or am I just drilling holes into my intake manifolds and
causing $$ of damage??

Looking forwards to your responses...

Cheers
drat

The best solution is to have the distributor re-curved by Barry at IAE in Detroit, which will eliminate the need for a vacuum module. Hooking the module up to the intake manifold won't work.

Welcome to the board, drat!

Your distributor is centrifugal advance ...

The technician who suggested that is mistaken ... the vacuum module is only for emmissions compliance, as it only has an effect at idle, and that is just to retard timing 10° ... nothing else!

My suggestion is to remove the distributor after turning engine to TDC#1 ... clean with Brakleen and check for wear, binding of the centrifugal advance mechanism.

If you take a look at the following thread ... the specs apply to your distributor ... it is identical to the one used on 2.4 911T engines! You can check the advance curve profile with an 'advance' style timing light very easily ...

distributor lube...

Set your 'basic' timing at 5° BTDC at an isle speed of 900 rm, and check/reset at max revs [5000 rpm - 6000 rpm] per the spec book page ...

I get the feeling that reconnecting the vacuum distributer is probably going to cause more problems then its worth...

Thanks for the replies.
