Mike, that is Barney Purple, not urban aubergine. But with a V8, I think it can get away with the dinosaur association :p
|
Drooooooooooooool
Can I have a ride? CanI CanI ? |
Hehehe, very cool.
|
is "G R A P E N U T S" too many letters for a California license plate??? :D
|
Thats not Barney or Urban Aubergine.
I grew up in LA, that's the most popular color at Earl in Compton, its "laverdine" Great car Mike!!:D Congrats, nothing handles like a 914. |
Congrats!! :D
What kind of V8 is it? Give us some specs on that little beastie. |
I see "I LUV U" plates in your future.
|
very cool....needs a louder exhaust though.
|
That reminds me of an outragious 1970 MOPAR color ... from the short-lived Peter Max ad campaign ... pre-dated Barney by a few decades!
InViolet!!! Let's see how many Dodge-hating morons this one draws out??? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1087537789.jpg |
hhuuuh? happy birthday! that car is over the top! V*8? that is going to be one hell of a tuneup. i still miss your yellow one.
|
That's a fast California raisin
|
Happy B-day Z!
Nice car! I have to ask: How quick is it compared to the 3.6? |
It's a 283 with an over bore to 292, Rod Simpson conversion parts. Aluminum heads, Rochester spread bore carb, Borla exhaust.
It's quick off the line but needs a little tweaking.....Summer Fun that starts on the 21st of June....God, I'll be 47...... |
cool. sounds like a hoot.
Is first blocked off or has a 915 been swapped in there? I thought the 350 was the standard on these. Is the 283->292 better suited in terms of gearing? Man, I want a V8 teener |
HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIKE!!!
Okay, so can I come by and take a look see? |
!st is Just NOT used....%^B....two schools of thought, you can use a Sporto ring and pinion and adjust the gearing THAT way....or go in and adjust the 4th and fifth to give a lower freeway rpm. Right now it does abour 3,000 rpms at 65mph in fifth......
So I will probably set up another box soon ans swap it out. Standard 901 boxes and plentiful as are sporto r&ps.... Dan....c'mon bye....see the mess....my contractor blew out his ACL and is hobbling around....stuff is at a standstill..... |
Happy B day Mike. I think a solution to the low fifth is to take a 2nd gear "set" swap them around and put them in place of 5th. Not positive on accuracy, but this should get you down in the low 2k range at 65mph.

Mike that chuckle and wave... I nearly blew my breakfast out my nose....http://www.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/lol2.gif Happy happy! |
2nd gear is fixed on the input shaft of the 901. Unless you can find a very rare and expensive racing version of the input shaft you can't play with 2nd gear at all.
if I remember correctly either 3rd or 4th is used in the flipped position to make 5th gear higher. And I never could figure out the logic of removing or locking out first gear. Why in the world do they do that? I know it is the weak link, the obvious solution is to just don't use it under full power. 1st gear is very useful to pull into the garage or to put the car on a trailer, it just takes a bit of self control not to use it to do burnouts. Besides, on my V8 914 I prefered second gear for the burnouts because I could get more tire smoke ;) |
Mike, Don't sweat 47 I am right there with you in November.
1957 Just a Baby! |

Happy B'day and very cool car. Congrats. |

I have not personally done it, but but I was told by Scott Mann at Renegade that one of the gear sets (either 3rd or 4th) can be assembled in reversed order to obtain a higher ratio.
In other words, put the output gear on the input shaft and versa visa. Obviously if a gear set has an established wear pattern installing it in a different orientation could cause unusual wear or noise. If I were to do it i would prefer to use a new gear set unless i had a set that was in near new condition. |
I still think that a R&P swap on a known GOOD 901 trans would be the easier swap.....
