Finally done painting?

Well all of the piece parts have been painted and the paint booth has been taken down. I am in the process of temporarily fitting the larger body parts on the chassis so I can wet sand and compund out the nibs (specks of grit) in the clear coat. When I am done with that I will push it back into the garage and take it off the rotisserie and mount the chassis on jack stands for the start of reassembly of all the guts. First I have to clean and recondition what I can and replace anything that needs replacing. At the rate I work I don't expect to be driving soon. But that is ok I am not in a rush yet. Here are some pics of the work I have done recently.

I left this pic out as you can see there is not much room in the garage with all the body parts off the car.

Pat,
You need to write a book after this. Great job on what is most certainly a labor of love!

I used the front and rear bumper shock mount points to set the car on the rotisserie correctly.

Very nice. This has been a long time coming. Good luck on the reassembly. Should be a bit less tedious than sand then spray, sand then spray, sand then spray.

I'm amazed -- Camarillo doesn't have any laws against this?

Good luck.

Seriously impressive!! Can't wait to see more progress. Do you have a target date for completion or are you just playing by ear?

I'm just playing by ear, I originally though it would take a 1 to 1 1/2 years to do. I am almost at that mark now and a long way from being done. There is so much more to do I don't have the excitement in me to say hurry up and you can drive it. I'll get there in my own time and hopefully it will all work out to my satisfaction.

Looks like the pinting was the easy part. How did you get everything apart? I was told that removing the fenders was difficult because they are glued to the body. Does this sound right?

No, they are not glued to the body. There is a putty like substance that is placed between the fender edge and the chassis edge. This is where the fender bolts to the frame in the luggage compartment. There are bolts holding the fender to the door frame and are located behind/under the fender wheel well. Those bolts are covered with Wurth Body Schultz (undercoating). Once you have removed all of the bolts from the fender and body. Seperating the fender from the chassis can be done. A thin putty knife can be used to help loosen up the putty if needed beteen the fender and the luggage compartment.
