alternator leads - the black one?
Just removed the alternator in my 1980 sc and noticed the brown, red and blue leads were connected but the black one was not (electrical taped over). It's a rebuilt alternator that's in there. Should the black be connected? If so where? What does it do?
Thanks, Graham

going off the top of my head. i think the black wire (which actually has a blue stripe on it?) is for the external regulator. if and when the change is made to go to an internal, that wire gets taped up. is your airshroud cut up? to fit the bigger VR?

No changes to the air shroud and there is an interal regulator in the alternator. Its a bosch rebuilt unit that fit nicely into the mag housing
Thanks, Graham

This wire is indeed for the external voltage regulator. It should not be connected to anything if your alternator is converted to the internal type. I removed mine when I re covered my engine harness.
