Looking for an AC shop in the SF Bay Area
I almost succumbed to the heat in the East Bay last week (104 in Concord!) so I'm going to break down and have an AC system installed. My car never had factory AC so one of the previous owners had an aftermaket unit installed. The last PO had it ripped out because of the added weight and inefficiency of the system. To heck with added weight, I need AC! Can anyone in the SF Bay Area recommend a shop that has experience with Porsches? Thank you and my armpits thank you too.

My wrench recommended California Car Care in Walnut Creek - they did a good job of checking my system (factory installed) and refilling it. Nice clean job and they did a great job of explaining to me what they found. Don't know how experienced they are with Porsches, but since my wrench thought highly of them, I went with it.

Hi Chris,
RMG in Sunnyvale has all the tools and plenty of knowledge. I got my A/C refilled and leak-checked a couple of weeks ago, and now it blows cold enough for me on a hot day. / Johan

Steve, thanks for the shop info and link.
Johan, thanks for the info as well. I'll try Steve's recommendations first as they're closer to me. Where've you been btw? Have you gone on drives or autox lately? Toby, I have hoses in the engine compartment but nothing else. Let me know what you have and how much please. Another source for parts found me just now so between you and them I ought to be able to have a complete system or two and hopefully save myself some cash. I know that paying for labor will be the biggest expense. Thanks all. |
