Valve adj done - thanks

Thanks to all of you for your input and advice.

I did it. After having everything ready I was a bit scared to get started. But it turned out to be a walk in the park. Yes it is almost impossible to get the feeler into the gap, but what I did was to loosen the nut until I could get the feeler in, and then with the feelet still in tightened it again.

After checking the gaps the 4th time, I decided I had the "feel". Then adjusted and checked with "feel" where I could not get the feeler into.

Started her up, what an improvement on sound! I had a lot of tapping noises before, which are now gone. The accelaration is also much smoother now.

I think I was a bit conservative as there seem to be one or two valves still tapping. I blame it on "loos is better than to tight" theory. Sounds like one on the bottom of both sides is still on the loose side.

I might give it another go this weekend, am sure I'll be able to do it in 1 or 2 hours this time round.

good going amigo ! l had a similar experience first time around. These engines are pretty simple but mistakes can be very costly as we all know. After my first adjustment l second guessed myself right to another shop that had a well known P-car tech l respected, and had him check my work.He said he didn`t have to change anything, perfect adjustment.Cost me a bit but l had worried myself silly thinking l`d gotten one too tight.Long time ago and pretty funny now but l`m glad l had a second opinion.l love that car, life wouldn`t be the same without it

Know the feeling! I admit to being very anxious just before I started her up, after doing the adjustment.

It helps to be on the safe side. Today you can laugh about your own experience. Great feeling to know that you did not screw things up!
