My 911 E...dependable, dependable, "work-horse"..Why is your's special?

This "car"....really "Horse"...is turning out to be one of the most dependable, utilized cars, I've ever had. Using it nearly every day now...to work....most errands...and recently over 100 mile drive, and safe fun drives. It's really turned out to be fun to "work" on also.

I'd like to know why you consider yours that "special" car(s)?

Thanks to the board.

Oh yeah -- that's what you said!

I guess I couldn't say it better myself so I didn't. SmileWavy

porcupine911 06-18-2004 01:23 PM

because it's mine!

i chose my car because i am a big fan of the mechanical fuel injection (i'm a mechanical engineer).

Isabo 06-18-2004 01:50 PM

Because it's mine and it's paid for.
Because we play together and laugh together when we do well in hillclimbs. We cry together when we don't.
Because we cut a dash together in the modish part of Milan even if the beau monde thinks its a silly old bag with an idiotic grin on her face driving a scruffy old sports car.
Because she's a long term project that may never be totally finished but is staying with me forever:)

Jim Richards 06-18-2004 02:19 PM

Because my 73E is so much fun.

Glad to here all the good things (& great pics) about your "E's"
Mine is a restoration in process, I have only been able put less than a mile on her before she went into the garage in late Nov. '03.

In a couple more months, I should have some good things to say!
Right now all I can say is "She's Mine"

oldE 08-02-2004 02:15 PM

I've put about 600 miles on the "Old E" this summer. It had been only half-done when I got it. There are still a lot of things to do, but I am getting more comfortable as I work on the various systems, (suspension, electrical, sunroof, etc.) and the more I drive the car, the better I like it. If I don't watch out, I might get a reputation as a bit of a "H*ll-raiser" in the car. And everyone will know its me, 'cause there isn't another one like it around (on the road) for 120 miles. Deny, deny deny. ;)

It's better for me than drinking, it's cheaper than therapy and it's the coolest car I've ever seen.

Dr. Mark, you're a little hood-challenged to be an E. Of course extra credit for the duck. :)

Mark Wilson 08-03-2004 04:23 AM

OK misread the subject. I did have an E, so does that count?

How about me? IMO 1/2 an E is better than no E. Am I invited here?

I have a plan (I have lot of those) for a high compression 2.4 E for my S. I just won't tell anyone that it's uses E cams (or something similarly torquey) if I do it. They only thing better I've heard about is an RS spec motor. That could be a plan.

I'm all for the E clan. Stand up and be counted! Great cars.

jkarolyi 08-03-2004 03:59 PM

Dang it, stop talking about these E's and showing pics! You're making me feel guilty selling mine for a G50 Carrerra. :(

I love the way it sounds, smells and feels. Oh, and it is great fun to drive, too. Michael

Bumper regulations

Beautiful pics guys.

A reminder of how the bumper regulations polluted the perfect lines of the originals.

At least my 3.2 is galvanized.

"Stand up and be counted!"... ok Milt
The carbs are still being tweaked. On the hy I always follow the fastest point man. If V-1 screams the point gets eaten by the bear. So Now while I'm waiting it out in a herd at 65mph here comes speed racer at about 75-80. I'm in 4th at maybe 3.2k. As soon as he passes I wack the pedal and I'm almost instantly behind him at the 1/8-1/4mi following distance. I spent weeks solo living in my brothers '88 and this puppy seems to have Noticably more torque and snap than his stock 3.2 and there is definately more room for improvement. I can say that because I've had a history of carbs and you get to know how they sound and Should perform.. As of right now I feel that the E, instead of the S, was the way to go for a street engine..
and fwiw the cam timing was set to max spec advance of the older E specs. It's real sweet.

Carrera Charlie 08-03-2004 08:12 PM

You've got me itchin' to finish my rebuild! I bought my '69E with a blown engine and just got the piston and cylinder I needed to put it back together (stock). I've never driven a MFI car, so this should be exciting.

I also have some additional motivation ... my son just entered the Marine Corps and the plan is to drive down to San Diego for his graduation ceremony in the 911E. October on the coast is glorious ... in the 911E it should be sublime!

Regards,

>You should feel guilty! What were you thinking?

Well, I haven't gone through with selling the E yet, so there's still time to reconsider. I might drop the idea, especially since there seems to be a lack of G50 Carreras around LA lately.

Jack Olsen 08-04-2004 01:51 PM

Freeman Thomas' 911E is featured in the October '04 issue of Excellence. Very inspirational. (Although I suspect he doesn't use it for runs to Home Depot.)

Nice E, but my eye is drawn to that aubergine beauty to the left of it. :)

Bruce Huling 08-04-2004 03:30 PM

1) Because I simply like to drive it. It makes me smile.
2) Because I feel close to my dad (deceased) who took me for my first of many p-car rides in 1958 (from the hospital where I was born to our home in San Diego).
3) Because its 70's (my era) cool.
4) Who gives a ***** what goes for cool today?
5) The sound, the feel.
6) The great people who own similar cars, with strikingly similar values and interests. Contrary to the hollywood portrayel, p-car owners are actually great people in my opinion. Owning the car has opened many doors for me.

Because I have owned it half my life, met my wife while driving in a snow storm, has great cams for street and AutoX driving, and
Superman loves to wash it and helped rebuild the engine!!
