opinions on tire sizes for 7"/ 9"-17`s

l`m running factory 993 cup wheels on my 84 3.2,the wheels are 7" front,9"rear both 55mm offset. The wheels are shod with SO2`s -205 front,255 rear and l had the tires on my 90 Carrera 4 so the sidewalls are toast, that car defined understeer.lt`s been suggested to me that a wider front tire or narrower rear might help tune out some unwanted understeer l`m dealing with.Anyone have a similar set up with a tire combo that`s working well? l tend to evaporate tires so big money meats are not for me..l`m not looking for Generals either....any help appreciated.

205/50/17 front
235/45/17 rear
what size of spacer/adapter are you using?

I am running Cup IIs (993) on my 84 with 1.25 F and 1.5 R spacers.

205 Pilots F and 255 R.

When these wear out, I will go with 225 F and 255 R, maybe 275 R, and definitely going with Kumho Ecsta's. I love the Michelins, much better than my SO3s, but the Kumho's are half the price and I've heard good things about them.

thanks for the feedback.l`m running 1.5 billet bolt on adapters for the rear and 3/4 inch spacers on the front with longer studs.l`ve always had clearance issues up front but the fact that my front fenders are glass (one offs that allow the use of 993 headlights) may have something to do with the tight tolerances.l`ve also got the car pretty low too,and lots of negative camber.l may just go with the kumho`s...but should l go with a wider front,or narrower rear? That is the question..

Your narrower front track is definitely contributing to your understeer problem. Sounds like there is not much you can do about that though with your fenders. I'd go with the BOTH the wider front and narrower rear tires to try to overcome it. I had 225/50/15's all the way around on my '84 for a while and it still understeered. I could barely induce trailing throttle oversteer at all; talk about a buzz kill. That is with whatever alignment the PO's shop did a couple of years ago though. I'm sure as soon as I dial in some negative camber up front the car will handle properly. I'm running 235/40/17's front and 255/40/17's rear right now and of course it still understeers. The alignment settings are too much to overcome. I hope that your narrow front track issue does not create the same problem for you since that is a much harder fix. Of course, you could dial out some of your negative camber in the rear if you had to.
