Time Delays and Crappy Service

Just venting, but today I began what I thought would be my final build and finishing of my new 2.7 RS engine.

Listening to what has now proved to be VERY GOOD advice, I built my engine without gaskets and sealant. Today I discovered yet another mistake made by people charging me good money to do the job.

I have had a plethora of errors committed on my engine and parts by so-called experts. It began with machining errors on my rods by one shop. The wrong gasket set by another as well as screwing up the delivery address. A camshaft was returned to me with bad cracks through the lobes. Wrong cylinder headstud washers from the local dealer. Parts missing from a carrera tensioner upgrade kit and now finally as I'm setting timing I find that the heads have been returned to me from being rebuilt with the wrong intake valves (3 stems too short). I was hoping to begin an engine swap next week but yet again I'm left waiting for others to correct mistakes.

I've now wasted this weekend pulling my engine apart... again!

Thanks for listening

Sorry to hear that - you really have to keep a close eye on things when attempting to do it right.

I just checked - doesn't seem like we screwed anything up, as far as I can tell *whew*.

A friend of mine has a small p-car shop here in the states and has been complaining of the same thing for over a year . His thinking is with the economy being in a funk alot of businesses can't afford to pay for the proper help .
A good exmple , this past Wednesday he had ordered in a new Targa bar seal for a customer and when he opened the package it was a rear window seal which left him to explain to the customer why his would not be done on time . Keep inmind it's not always the shops fault .

This is why it took 6 months to get my engine done and I put up with it. I had little choice. My mechanic is good and he knows it. You do it his way and you get an engine that is perfectly restored and done at his own pace. Frustrating? Yes. But this is all he mostly does. I've alway wondered about garages that have cars on racks in one end and engines apart on the floor in the other. Good work is worth waiting for. Hope you engine comes together.

I was pleasantly surprised when the shop owner and a wrench, Dwight Foster, called me on my cell phone, a week or so after installing rear spring plates and aligning my 84. This was after the local P dealer charged me $350 to fail to do an alignment. He wanted to make sure that I was pleased with how the car was handling. It was the first time that I used his shop, Foster's Automotive, Camp Hill, PA, but it will NOT be the last. Even though I'm moving 2.5 hours away.
regards,
Steve
