Is there a similar procedure for breaking in a rebuilt transmission to Wayne's excellent engine break in procedure ??

they tend to be a bit stiff getting into some gears for a day or so, sometmes. just work the stiff gears until they smooth out. don't abuse them, just be firm. repeted in and out shifting, or for instance, 3rd, 4th, 3rd, 4th, etc, as you're rolling down the road, smooths the shifting fairly soon. some shift perfertly right out of the box, but most need a little work-in.

John, how soon should the gear oil be changed? Both, in general, and after a rebuild?
PAG spec'd every 6,000 miles early on, but later cars are more like 60,000 as I recall. I guess the question for us is whether that change was due to better lubricants over time, or better materials and engineering in the different trannys.... |
