Question Internal Thermostat????????

I am working on a 75 2.7L. I was wondering if there is a certain way that the internal thermostat has to go in? There is a small "notch" at the bottom of the T-stat, does it have to seat into anything?

It should only go in one way. The studs are offset just slightly so the holes in the flange only line up one way.
