Brake Problem - Suggestions?
Need some help diagnosing a problem with the brakes on my '69 911E. when I press on the brakes, there's about 2" of travel in the pedal before any braking begins, and then about 1" of travel during which the car decelerates. Even then, the braking is not very firm. I'm assuming it's a combination of 35-year-old master cylinder and brake lines, and was planning to replace both -- but before I do, wanted to hear folks' thoughts.

Sounds like a good plan, at the very least flush and bleed. Sounds like the MC is leaking internally however.
Brake lines are cheap insurance, BA sez replace 'em every 10 years. rjp

Air in the lines. Bleed the brakes. Simple.
But a full brake system rebuild is still a good idea. Rebuild the calipers, MC, new flex hoses. Pads and rotors as required. Your brakes will be good as new.
