changing plugs on 964 turbo with power steering
hi
i am in the middle of doing some service work to my car including a new set of spark plugs!! the plug below the power steering pump looks as good as impossiible to change without removing the pump, if so whats the best way to remove the power steering pump and belt which will probably have to be removed aswell??? just so i dont have any more problems refitting other than the usual skinned wrists! thanks!!! |

Since it has no engine mounted oil cooler maybe its accessable from underneath ? I have the same engine but the p/s pump is removed. I believe the tin has an access hole from the bottom. Might be worth a look.

Mine is a 930 so I have no worries of the power steering pump, but I remember this comprehensive thread from Rennlist with lot's of maintenance being done to a 965:
http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/showthread.php?t=94329&page=4&pp=15 Many guys actually remove the engine tin that runs along side the cam housing.

hi
guys what a nightmare to change that plug below the power steering pump!! i found the only way to do this was to remove the rocker cover on the top of that side thus allowing me to get the spark plug key on at an angle! good job these cars are great,if they werent nobody would want to buy them because of the hassle to work on some jobs on them! thanks for your help!!

remove the tin attached to the cam tower and go in from underneath. i use a swivel type 5/8" plug socket with a short extension, it's all one piece. snap-on has them in various lengths. all the right uppers are done that way.
