ssi heat exchanger and oil pressure lines

I need help! I have spent the last 2 days trying to figure out how to put backdated 1974 ssi heat exchanger on my 76 porsche 911 w/a 2.7 cis engine. Ive been told it should work but I swear the metal oil pressure line is in the way. Ive read the tech article regarding this but the install is in a newer porsche. Is there a different oil pressure line I am suppose to use with the new ssi heater eschangers?

Thanks

Ps Engine is in! I just need to put the heat exchangers and exhaust. Then, I can fire it up for the first time in 2 yrs..

Are having trouble with the hard line seen behind the SSI heaterbox in the above image? Jim

Better image showing PS SSI and "hard" oil line on a '73.5T; on a '76 the end of the line doesn't make a 90 degree bend but instead the fitting points straight out to the right.

No, the oil pressure line is a rubber hose on the passenger side of the engine. The line then goes back and connects with a "U" shaped metal oil pressure line to the rear car than moves to the front on the drivers side and connect the engine casing. Sorry I dont have any pictures. The ssi's on both sides of engine hit this metal oil pressure line. I dont recall seeing that metal oil line you have in the picture on my 2.7. I can see you have the ssi heat exchangers and I wonder if thats the fix for the problem?

I am looking at the 2nd picture. The oil pressure line I am referring to is on the other end of the engine and is blocking the heat exchangers from fitting up into engine.

This is what the "jumper" from the hard oil line to an external oil cooler thermostat looks like on a '76 with an external oil cooler and SSI's.

Jim,

So I need to get a oil line adapter or "jumper" to replace that line to get it out of the way. I didn't know this. My car doesnt have an external cooler yet(next project).

Isaac

Ps I really appreciate your help on this.

Have you removed the air injection lines and the EGR line? Below is an image of the bottom of a '76 in OEM condition with the exception that the thermal reactors are replaced with 3 to 1's.

Here's the underside of my '77 before SSIs were installed. Is the line you are referring to visible here? BTW, thanks, Jim, for the help with my install....

You lost me on the air injection lines but I do make out that pesky black metal oil pressure line above the heat exchanger and adjacent to the muffler.

That black u-shaped line is the air injector manifold on a '76; it must be removed to install SSI's or backdated heater boxes.

Or does the line causing problems look like the one in the below images? If so, someone has installed a hard oil from an SC on your car.

Jim,

That's it. You're brilliant. On the first picture clearly shows the hard oil line i am talking about. I was pulling up the pelican part number b/c I thought I saw it. In the catalog, I believe it is the "engine block oil pressure line H 107 741 11.

Now the question is what the h#!! do I do now?

I just looked this up. I believe I need to replace this w/an oil line hose. Pelicanparts catalog refers to sc's needing to have this hose. Jim, you've been extremely helpful and I really appreciate this. I love this bulletin board.

Well you can bend up the existing oil lines like these guys did:

Backdating exhaust, do I really need older oil lines?

Or buy the new correct lines for a better fitting and better looking installation. Jim
