It's about time he came to his senses!!! knowing how much he loves old cars, I can't believe he doesn't own a 550 spyder or an RS61 or something to that extent.

interview...

i read an interview with leno about his car collection in some mag a while back ......he was asked why he didn't own any porsches in his collection....his response was, "why would i want a car that goes shreeeeeem shreeeeeem when i can have one that goes VAROOOOOM VAROOOOOOOOOOM!"

thought that was a bit stupid at the time (at least he didn't call them bloated ass-heavy nazi rustbuckets).....but i'm glad to see that he has possibly come to his senses

-j

p.s. that car looks f*&%ing tight!

They finally made one w/ enough cylinders for his taste. He really is a nice guy, and I'm sure that his first Porsche won't disappoint him.

I do not think a Carrera GT will disappoint him. It may get him hooked on Porsches. Although I am sure the GT doesnt drive anything like my 911SC, it seems to me that once you really learn to drive a Porsche you get hooked.

Sure he will be hooked on the GT, but how does he do a p-car upgrade from that? Driving a CGT probably won't inspire him to go out and buy an old RS or anything.

I saw an interview where Jay stated that he didn't own German cars because the Germans bombed most of the factories that made a lot of his favorite cars.

No it's not, not if you can afford it. There was a time in my life that $10K was too much money for any car, At this point in my life $100K or even $50K is too much money for any car. If I was extremely wealthy I would think a CGT was a great deal.

sorry, i like my toys as much as the next guy but imo it is - jmo.

obviously, if you're extremely wealthy it doesnt matter how much it costs, still doesnt justify the price tag. its alot of money for a car.

i am not saying i wouldnt buy one

I agree with Rich. Even if you can afford 10 of them, that doesn't make it a good deal.

I'll bet the dealership gave it to him, or really discounted. If they can get Leno to drive one (he has said bad things about Porsches) then they can sell a lot more.

If you can afford a 20' custom-made car with a tank engine (do a search on the archives), you can afford a piddling GT.

Jay's car/motorcycle collection is ecelctic but his vehicles all have one thing in common -- HUGE HORSEPOWER. I was reading in Autoweek about some 1950's American sedan that he's installed an engine with over 500 hp. He owns one of those jet-powered motorcycles. He's got a 1920's coupe with an airplane engine in it. H's always raved about his McClaren as the fastest car on the planet. Maybe the Carrera GT pushed the McClaren out of the numero uno spot in his garage.

"Good deal"? You guys crack me up. Anyone who makes what Jay does ($30-50,000,000 a year) buys whatever they want, whenever they want, with a big smile on my face. Good deals and bad deals are for guys like us who have to worry about mortgage payments and kids college funds.

"Big smile on my face."
I guess that was a serious Freudian slip on my part.

I just hope he does a write up on it in his column in Popular Mechanics.
